Patio Party

Come on back and sit for a spell! Our patio is where we spend the most time together.

It's shaded throughout the day giving us a pleasant place to enjoy the sunshine, fresh air and beautiful backyard views.

This year we added a sectional sofa and coffee table for this very reason.  We wanted something super durable, comfortable and it had to be pretty.  We made a significant investment into quality pieces so that we would enjoy many years of use.

Note: We also purchased covers that we use each night to protect them from the elements.

I'm very minimal when it comes to Vivian's things beyond her room but since we play the most outside I wanted her to have things to enjoy.  This playhouse and picnic table were both past birthday gifts that she absolutely adores! It's also great when other children come over to play.

Before the party lights ... clearly they add the perfect twinkling touch!

Our little garden off to the side.
Vivian and I enjoy time together caring for our plants and harvesting delicious vegetables.

It's so much fun to host our friends.

And to celebrate all the blessings life has given us!

We do all things from share meals, read, afternoons playing and splashing, hosting friends and even date nights. Anything we can take out under the Carolina blue skies, we do!

Friday Favorites: Jumpsuits

TGI-Summer! I'm just going to jump (hehe) right in. Today I am sharing jumpsuits.

Let's get the realities of a jumpsuit out of the way first.  Yes, you could say they're a onsie with often cumbersome closures that leaves you naked every time you visit the ladies room.
I can't find the lie.
You can also say they're a chic, one piece garment that's oh-so comfortable and easy to style.

Mine is Rebecca Taylor from a few seasons ago - Similar Style

As with anything fit is important and some jumpsuits may not 'fit' just right in the rise but I believe designs have come a long way and because there are so many options you're sure to find one that's just right.

Add a scarf, interesting belt and snazzy shoes for an elevated look or a slide sandal/fun sneaker for casual days.

Here are some of my favorite jumpsuits ....

Obsessed with this one for a fancy occasion

School Girl

Gone are my school girl days but if I were headed back to the classroom I imagine my first day outfit would look something like this.

A girlie collared pastel check blouse and loafers balances with a little cool girl in a distressed jean.

I find that styling feminine pieces with more casual ones really creates a modern look.  I'm extra girlie but don't want to appear too young or extreme with my outfits.  A distressed jean is the perfect way to tone done polished pieces. Classic designs will always be my go-to but I want to also stay current by incorporating trends.

This concept is great for taking your work wear pieces from the weekdays through the weekend. Pair a blouse or blazer with a jean or jogger for a chic and comfortable ensemble.  It's a smart investment to make the most out of your wardrobe with styling across occasions.

PS Loafers polish off any look with sophistication and comfort.  A requirement for me when it comes to shoes.

Dynamic Duo

A dear gal pal of mine reached out last week to schedule a day of fun with her children alongside Vivian and I.  She so kindly referred to us as a 'Dynamic Duo'.  I can't quite explain it precisely but I was utterly flattered and it made me so very happy. We are together just us two more than most (I chose to be with her over my career and Ryan works extremely long hours in the ER).

While I can't know how I'm perceived virtually, those who know me in real life can attest that I am definitely dynamic with very unique traits. As is my Vivian Louise!!! It's truly like having a tee tiny version of myself in tow.

She's always alongside me bringing joy, laughter, lots and lots of questions and love that knows no measure. While there are moments I long for a bit of independence I choose to cherish the blessing of her!

Confession: When I was expecting our darling girl I had hoped she'd inherit my looks (thick red hair & big green eyes) and Ryan's personality (focused, intelligent, calm). I can hear God laughing as He definitely graced us with the exact opposite.  She looks just like him dimples and all but behaves just like me as girlie and enthusiastic as can be!

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor
Ecclesiastes 4:9

God designed us to be together with others and I believe it's so important that the company we keep be honorable and upstanding. Relationships can be challenging but He will give us the right people at the right time.

Here are traits I find best fitting for a sidekick ....

1. Loving.  Showing love looks different for everyone but it should be kind, patient, generous and forgiving.

2. Humorous. Laughter is so very very good for the soul.

3. Honest. Life is full of choices to make and paths to take. Guidance that also has accountability is vital.

4. Loyal. We are called to bear each other's burdens. Being there with support and encouragement.

5. Cheerful. How wonderful it is to celebrate the blessings in each other's lives without comparison or jealousy.

Let's challenge ourselves and others to be the best we can be!

Friday Favorites: Bargain Buys

TGI-Summer! I love a good bargain! Who doesn't?! Money doesn't grow on trees and it's important we are intentional.  When I am able to acquire something beautiful for a beautiful price I feel victorious.  The key to being a savvy shopper is patience and luck.  Patience to wait and frequently search for items and well shear luck of being at the right place at the right time.

Just Wednesday, I popped into Anthropologie for a browse and found a pair of my favorite designer jeans, Mother brand.  I tried them on but they had no price and were hanging solo with no other matching pairs.  When I took them to the register the associate informed me that they were on sale for merely $29 from $228! #winner

Now aside from purchasing items on sale, you can also find pieces that look like a splurge for a steal.

Here are some of my favorite finds at a fabulous fare ...
