Squared

In the midst of emerging trends there are classics that you can't do without.  These are the building blocks for a timeless wardrobe.  This oversized checkerboard plaid sweater brings plenty of pretty, perfect for embracing a new season of cool. In extra fine marino wool it is in fact extra soft!

The statement plaid in shades of grey is a squarely suited piece for transitioning into fall with it's mock neck and elbow sleeve design.

I mixed this classic with the trending culotte style of trousers. The trick to wearing culottes, is for the hem to hit a few inches below the knee and a few inches above the ankle.  And for us petite gals, take them to a tailor if needed.  It's the least expensive alteration you can get.  Also try a nude heel.  It's leg lengthening! (don't ask me how many pairs of nude shoes I own - a gal's gotta wear what a gal's gotta wear)

P.S.  This block plaid sweater comes in a coordinating skirt and coat.

Culottes

Culottes are Back!!

I called my Mamma while shopping to inform her that I was about to buy my first pair of culottes.  Her reaction: 'don't do it!' See, my Mamma wore culottes a lot when I was younger and is appalled at the turnover of trends.  I'm starting to understand as I see the 80's & 90's fashion return, bringing back the memories of 'not-so-cool' styles.  Is this a sign I'm aging?!!!

I believe that recycling trends from decades past can be a good thing.  It's like a do-over, a chance to get it right.  The key is to keep it modern, and flattering.

Culottes are garments that hang like a skirt but are actually pants - creating functionality and comfort.    The hem should hit right below the knee to avoid shortening the line of the body.  The wide flowy leg is chic but you don't want too much volume so keep the fabric light and the fit on the hips tailored.

Here's the BEST part about these culottes ... I scored these for a whopping $5 on the clearance rack at Marshalls!! #winning ... Now I understand their slogan/hashtag "FabFound".

I kept this look clean in classic black and white and added a pop of hot-pink with shiny patent pumps.

Sailor Suit

Jumpsuits are my jam.

This summer culotte jumpsuit is perfect for warm weather and causes no issues with length, I can wear flats or heels.  Think of it as a midi dress but with legs.

I love the big wide stripes; so nautical. Maybe it's because Mr is a Naval Officer, or my love of summer at the beach but either way I'm all nautical this time of year.

I went with my cobalt blue d'orsay pumps for a dressy look. FYI: Mixing shades of a color is fun.

This jumpsuit is fitted so nicely on the top and has a comfortable wide leg opening.

Incorporate a culotte jumpsuit for your casual fridays and weekends!
