Spring Break Goals

 It's Spring Break!

We kicked it off with a special Easter weekend.

Ryan took a work assignment at a hospital on the coast of NC that aligned with Vivian's spring break and allows us to stay with his parents. We don't get to visit nearly enough and when I'm here it's the same as it always is. The stocked pantry, family photos/heirlooms and hospitality are just as they were when I first came 17 years ago.
I hope when Vivian's grown and comes home it feels the same for her.

I forever have a list of projects and things to catch up/get ahead on but this year I'm embracing rest! I want to take advantage of the extremely rare gift of helping hands and enjoy stillness and slowness (the best I can).

I am still working remote while I'm here and I do have things to manage but my list is small and full of fun.

My Spring Break Goals ...

1. COMPLETE 2 PUZZLES

I had a reversible 500 piece puzzle shipped and started working on it this morning! I'm about half way and plan to finish this afternoon. I love focusing on something that isn't my computer.  I spend hours each day on technology and welcome the break!

2. READ A BOOK

I love easy non-fiction books this time of year because I prefer turning the pages under the sun. I struggle to sit still and carve out the time for reading but in the fresh air I find myself eager to linger.

3. FIND AS MANY SEASHELLS & SHARKS' TEETH AS I CAN

We are a short car ride away from the beach and expecting some warm days mid-week. While we won't be putting more than our toes in the water I am bursting to get out on the sand and hunt for pretty shells and sharks' teeth! I collect sea treasures!

4. PREPARE BLOG CONTENT

Gracious do I wish I had these posts written in advance so I could just click publish some mornings but the reality is I write in the moment. Even right now, it's already into the afternoon and I'm typing away. I like for this space to be as honest as possible with what's on my mind but I can be better at getting ahead with a great portion of what I share.

5. SWEET CONVERSATIONS & TIME WITH FAMILY

I've found you don't always have to be 'doing' stuff to create memories. Just sitting, talking about the every day things is precious.

Whether you're on Spring Break or business as usual,
I encourage you to find moments of time where you can find rest and stillness

Sit Still & Have Fun

I can NOT sit still!!! I'm constantly moving quickly doing all the things ALL day long!
I like to do things, be productive and get a thrill from crossing things off of my to-do list.

I think of relaxing and long for it but can't bring myself to actually sit still. I'm just like the wiggle worm you see in a little kid. I'm not mad about my energy and wouldn't want to be any other way but I would like to incorporate some focused fun and quiet.

Over Christmas break I received a puzzle. Puzzles are something I enjoyed doing as a kid and have missed as an adult. I put it together with my sister and gracious was it so much fun! We sat at our breakfast table and I said 'boom' each time I connected a challenging piece!

Bonus: the puzzle was reversible so the next day we did the other side

This past weekend I decided to sit still and do another. I'm not sure if it was the busy week I had or just enjoying our home with Ryan in it (rare especially on weekends) but I pulled one out of our cabinet and started.

Note: Before I can work or do anything focused I make sure all chores are done. I'd like to think I could just make them wait but I that's outside my limits.

Here are some great activities for sitting still & HAVING FUN ...

This art is making a comeback.
I have a few gal pals that do it and I'm thinking of trying it.
Stockings & Pillows are popular projects.

I used to do this a lot as a kid.

These have never appealed to me - but I imagine it would really enhance your vocabulary
Back when the newspapers were big this was very popular.

I absolutely LOVE games but it does require more people.
I really want to incorporate them with my gal pals.

Maybe you enjoy painting, or sewing or making jewelry,
whatever you like to do I encourage you to sit still and do it!
Life is meant to be enjoyed! Work is necessary but so is fun!
