Shop My Closet

Gals, we all have pieces in our closet that we thought we'd wear and didn't, did wear and won't wear again, bought and shouldn't have bought or that just don't spark joy anymore.

I clean out my closet at least twice a year. Some I donate, some I pass to gal pals and some I sell online.

The past few years I've been using Poshmark to sell (and sometimes buy). I find it super easy and friendly to buyers & sellers.

Here are my tips for selling:

- Make sure items are in excellent condition, clean and ironed

- Take good photos

- Research item's original description & online photos

- Price reasonably
This is very important. You've already decided to part with it, the money's been spent and it's better to sell than to continue collecting dust. Be willing to accept offers!

I've listed lots of pieces from my closet (and Vivian's) but just after listing today several have sold!

I'm going to continue to list throughout the week, so check back and I'll include links on future posts.

Note: If you know me in real life or would like to purchase directly from me, please send me a message & I'd be happy to sell and save us both in fees!

Another Note: If you've ever seen me wear something that you'd like to purchase - ask!

Treasure Hunter

Sarah Louise treasure hunter here! Those who know me well know I enjoy searching for special things. Every Summer I spend lots of time combing through the sand for seashells and shark teeth. I bring home bags of beautiful treasures to marvel over.

Note: I'm working on a creative way to store and display them. Currently Vivian & I play with them.

The beach isn't the only place I hunt for treasures. I enjoy collecting rocks & leaves from the mountains, vintage decor from thrift shops, designer pieces from resellers and handmade gifts from small shops.

Here are some of my favorite places to hunt ...

NATURE

I find the most majestic works of art outside.
You can keep them in a keepsake box or on display in shadow boxes or frames.
No one could ever create something as unique or beautiful as the Creator! #facts

Last week I found the ultimate treasure.
A MEGALODON tooth!!!!!
It's been on my bucket list and I even have a trip planned to fossil hunt for one.
These extinct massive sharks lived 3.6-25 million years ago (according to scientists)
and were the largest predators known.
This find is EPIC!

THRIFT & ANTIQUE STORES

I've been hunting here for decades. I find china, silver, linens, art, furniture, books, jewelry .... the list goes on and on! I have an affinity for old things and the stories they hold.
Even my engagement ring is an estate piece dating back to the 1920's.

I often imagine the memories these pieces help make. I can be very sentimental :)

My favorites in Charlotte are: The Assistance League & Sleepy Poet.
When I travel I often visit local stores.

RESALE BOUTIQUES

Consignment shops & resale sites are fantastic places to find unique and designer pieces at a great price.
Here in Charlotte I visit J.T. Posh & Divine Consign.
In Wilmington, Hope Consignment.
For online sites I have been successful shopping on
Poshmark (shop my own closet here later this week!) & Ebay.

HANDMADE SHOPS

Local markets & Etsy are great places to find handmade items from artists.
There is something special about something that's created by hand and is truly one of a kind.
These make the best gifts! Even Instagram is a place to find works from talented makers.

I encourage you to search behind the big box sellers and see what treasures you can find!

FACT: There is no greater place to find eternal treasures of truth, hope, peace and love than in HIS Word!
Start there before seeking anywhere or from anyone else!!!

Vivian's favorite beach treasure is sea glass

New to You

New or new to you? Would anyone ever know? Would it even matter?

A good portion of my closet is resale items purchased online or from consignment shops. And that's not all.  A great deal of my home decor I have found at antique and thrift shops. It's not just economical. It's sustainable and in my experience, provides uniqueness over shopping the same racks everyone else is. Not to mention, if you have ever missed out on a piece from a past season, shopping resale gives you a second chance to find it and most likely at a deep discount.

Years ago, resale shopping was primarily in consignment stores. But with sites like eBay and Poshmark your can literally shop the closets of others right from home any time.

It's not just for designer or high end items. Although it's a fabulous opportunity to own high end brands at a pretty price! I search and shop everyday brands just as much.
Note: It's great for kids too - especially for dressy clothes they wear a select time or two.

Some of my resale purchases

I've actually sold several pieces just in the past month after organizing my closet when switching seasons. I found it just as fun as a seller providing outfits to other gals as I did being the buyer :)

Here are my tips and tricks for shopping resale ...

My Favorite Resale Sites

I use the first 3 the most but know of gals that love the others.

How I search:
1. By Brand - Anthropologie, J Crew, Sea, Ulla Johnson, Mother Denim, etc ....
2. Item Type - maxi skirt, midi dress, sleeveless top, sandal etc ...
3. Filters - size, sleeveless, price, color, floral etc ...

Purchasing/Selling
1. Negotiate respectfully - it's fair to submit & consider offers but within reason
2. Pay & Ship promptly
3. Write reviews

Consider
1. Know your size with specific brands and ask for measurements - sales are typically final
2. Shopping consignment stores. This supports local small businesses - I love Charlotte's J.T. Posh & Divine Consign. Follow them on social media as they often post merchandise!
3. As you sell your own pieces, let it inspire you to shop more intentionally (I mostly sell things I probably shouldn't have purchased and/or wore for an occasion) and set a goal on how to spend your earnings wisely.

New to you, looks just as good as new!
