Limelight

I'm always telling you gals to invest in classic pieces but it's equally as important to have fun with your outfits. A great way to do that is to incorporate statement colors, embellishments and trends.

This top clearly doesn't shy away from the limelight. In a neon hue, dramatic puff sleeve and detailed neckline it's certainly a showstopper. I like adding bold pieces like this one.  It shakes things up in my wardrobe, keeping it fresh and modern!

Tip: Light jeans and neutral accessories are key pairings to soften a look.

Try New Things

Happy Monday gals! Today is a big day for a lot as it's the 1st day of school (we still have 1 more week of Summer for Vivian). New can be intimidating and make us nervous. It can also be exciting and turn to something that becomes so familiar we stick to it.

I've been called a creature of habit more often than I'd like to admit. I've been eating the same breakfast, using the same products and even avoid the same tasks for decades. What can I say, I like what I like (and don't like).

While I don't see myself suddenly becoming adventurous (although I did ride in the front seat of a helicopter over Lake Tahoe for my 39th birthday this year thanks to my gal pals) I do want to challenge myself to try new things.

I believe if we embrace the new, the possibilities just may lead to blessings!

Here are some new things I'm going to try ...

Cooking a New Dish Once a Week

Gals, I can't stand cooking (that's a major understatement). I eat as natural and unprocessed as possible.
I detest preparing food and even more so cleaning up after. I don't even like to go and shop for the food.
BUT my dear husband truly enjoys a yummy meal and has been asking me to try for 16 years.
UGH ... realistically this is all I can aim for considering just how much I'm opposed.

Being a Dog Owner

Trixie

Sigh if you follow me on IG, you may have seen that we are welcoming a yellow girl Labrador puppy into our home in a few weeks.  I have killed Ryan's dream of having one daily for 16 years ... I decided I had to soften my heart. I do NOT want one nor the dirt and responsibility one comes with with every cell of my body. The things we do for love.
We've named her Trixie and all I've heard from Ryan and Vivian is pure joy when they talk about her.
Please lift me and the dog up in prayer and also send any helpful advise!!!

Organizing Girls' Outings

I am social and extroverted but yet I fail to organize and invite local gals out. I thrive in my schedule and routine, on top of being a mother, working and rarely having someone to care for Vivian, are all reasons I neglect extending invitations.  I'm going to try setting up 1-2 dates a month with friends (outside of the organized groups I'm in).

Professional Skin Treatment

I never ever spend on beauty services. I'd like to try minor treatments this year (facials, injectables, peels ... not sure what just yet). I use good skin care products and makeup but I'd like to do something a little extra. I've tried Botox and really liked it but its too pricey for me to maintain.

Outdoor Gym Class

There's some really challenging outdoor classes focused on athleticism at my gym that have intimidated me. I know I have the strength and endurance to excel at them and yet I have held back.  I don't want the unknown of something to hold me back. I'm signing up asap ... more like when the temperature cools down; I'm not looking to die of heat stroke.

I encourage you to embrace the unknown!

Friday Favorites: Quilted Jackets

TGIF! Gal just 10 days left of Summer and my darling will be off to her last year of preschool! I'm dropping everything that I can to soak her up and have all the fun we can.

I'm a planner for everything, so even though Fall's cooler temps aren't here yet I am thinking about the upcoming trends for layering and staying warm. Jackets are king down here in the South because they're just the right layer for our mild season.

Floral, Americana and vintage patterned quilted jackets are such a hot trend.  This year I'm seeing modern touches with peplum shapes, puff sleeves and cropped lengths. These jackets add print, interest and texture.  Pair them causally with a pair of jeans or a bit dressier over a long skirt.

Here are several quilted jackets that are pretty and warm ...

Fall-ish

Gals, Fall everything is everywhere. I've seen halloween decorations, warm clothing and even the oh so popular pumpkin flavors (eww not a fan).

While yes, the colorful leaves are pretty and cooler temperatures are cozy ... we aren't there yet!

It's still super hot, school hasn't started and again it's still hot (August)! While the days of swimsuits and resort dresses may be behind us that doesn't mean we should dive deep into bundling up.

Here are my style tips for easing into Fall ....

1. Darker colors - this maxi dress comes in lots of pretty jewel tones

2. Textured accessories - belts are my favorite - this one is on my list.

3. Closed toe shoes (flats, sneakers) - these pointed flats are so chic

4. Light weight long sleeve blouses - I LOVE this blouse & this one

5. Vest - an extra layer without making you melt - this Moto vest is cool

Endless Summer

Gals, THIS Summer!!! We have traveled and splashed our hearts out! I mostly want this Summer to never ever end! But with only two weeks left I'm squeezing in every drop of fun and at the same time really looking forward to what's to come in the next season.

Seasons come and go and while there's a little sadness to see them end I believe it's important to focus on the excitement shared while you're in it.

SL note: Be Present! It prevents looking back with regrets.

I sought out this Summer with intentions of experiences filled with joy, spontaneity and togetherness. I not only was blessed with just that, it was far beyond what I could have planned for.

Now for this next season I still want lots of the above, but mixed in with more structure, routine, fellowship and productivity.

Here's What I'm looking forward to once school starts ...

Routine & Productivity

I stretched myself to embrace spontaneity for the sake of fun memories but now I'm eager for daily routines: carpool, gym, work, bible study, after school activities, Sunday School etc

I've got projects, spaces to decorate & organize, and welcome working without interruptions!

Fellowship

While I was able to spend time with my gal pals some this Summer, but it was most often with our kiddos and not consistent. I am beyond exited for weekly bible study, meeting new friends at Vivian's school & activities, and at MOPS (mothers of preschoolers - I'm co-leading this year!)

Fall Fashion

Give me all the darker colors, structured tops and jeans!!!

Blog post to come soon on what I've got my eye on.

Friday Favorites: Local Jewelry

TGIF! Gals, nothing impresses me more than the talents of others.  We all have special gifts that are unique to us, and when I see others using theirs it makes me proud. I want to encourage and support others in their endeavors.

Allow me to cheer on these local gals for their talent in jewelry ....

Lawren Taylor

I met Taylor, the creator/designer a year ago as her daughter was in dance class with Vivian.
I'm so tickled I befriended her as we have so much in common.
She has such a be a beautiful array of pieces sure to suit any style.

This gal creates such a variety of pieces from dainty to statement.
I've gifted her jewelry countless times. She also carries other items like handbags and home accessories.

For the natural/boho gal in your life this line is for her!
It love their use of natural elements.
This brand is owned and designed by 2 sisters.

These next two I found on my vacations this Summer at the beach ...

I've been obsessed with finding shark teeth and this designer not only makes jewelry from shark teeth but will wrap the ones you find for you.  I am having her wrap one for myself, and 2 for gifts.
I have my eye on a Megalodon pendant!

This line is new to me. I'm drawn to the fun colors and unique embellishments.
These pieces will definitely add sass to your look!

Bargain Beauty

Pretty, practical and at a price that can't be beat, well that's how Walmart is winning in fashion!
A garment can be lovely but if it isn't wearable or fit in your budget it isn't a good fit. Being stylish isn't about having designer pieces it's about what you do with clothing, like accessorizing and unique pairings that make it you and let your personality shine.

I'm going to be honest gals, Walmart has become my top place to go to for pretty, practical pieces at a price that can't be beat.

Tip: Mix them with jewelry and accessories like a handbag or shoes that are more high end to elevate your bargain beauty look!

This pink skirt in a soft cotton is cool, comfortable and practical (Mamma life). The straight line silhouette and tie belt is flattering. I feel it unnecessary to tell you how pretty pink makes, well, everything and every one! It pairs beautifully with all other colors so picking a top won't be a challenge.

I paired this skirt with a white tee with printed ruffled shoulders for a pop of print.  I added nice jewelry for shine and designer orange sandals to add more color.

Ryan snapped these photos in the gusty beach winds (bless his heart) but despite his discomfort he did compliment my outfit. When I told him my skirt was Walmart he was in disbelief.

My favorite brands from Walmart are Free Assembly - Scoop
I've recently purchased this top & this cardigan

Gracious, I wish I could turn back time and be back on the beach!

You've Got a Friend in Me

School’s about to start and we often say how we hope our children make new friends (of course in addition to the ones they have). They’re in a new classroom/activities full of new people.

Well, it’s the same for us. New parents that are opportunities for us to make friends too!

Friends are for everyone! They are what we all want NEED!  We are worthy and qualified to have them. The trick is to find the ones right for you. That’s the not so easy part. It takes time and there will be some that don’t work out.

A blessing of a new friend (she’s as enthusiastic and as freckled as I am!) recommended this book to me as we both are praying for friends and gracious was it an encouraging answer.

There’s SOOOOO MUCH I want to share from it with you but the right thing is to just read it for yourself! It’s sweet, relatable and full of hopeful motivation.

I will share my personal thoughts & take aways with you …

Go. Initiate. Invite

Say yes to events and talk to nearby gals. Notice others, particularly who’s alone, and approach them. Invite someone to your home, coffee, playdate or even a target run.  As Nike put it, just do it! Real friends will NOT care nor judge what you or your home look like.

Just maybe someone is out there praying for a friend like you

and you’ll never know if you don’t give it a shot!

Just today I approached a Mom in Target and struck up conversation (pretty sure she wanted to run away) and again at the library I chit chatted with another mom and invited her to attend my MOPS group.

You have nothing to loose!

Be Confident

Sister, I’ve got insecurities. Fact: we all do and they hinder us!

Box them up and tape it shut because you are made beautiful inside and out. You have wonderful qualities that make you an awesome friend. You are given unique traits and talents to be used to bless others.

Confession: I’ve got big energy, I talk a ton, I’m bold, I dress up all the time, I’m also private, can be self conscious about superficial things and I feel lonely a lot!

Love Others

Our purpose is not for popularity or to please all the people. We are made to love God, follow Him and carry out the very specific purpose He designed just for your unique self! We won’t be for everyone but we can still show love.  I know when I am included, complimented or shown kindness it makes me feel like a million bucks. Let that motivate us to give the same to others.

Rather than a focus on making people like us we can make people feel liked!

Comparison & competition can get in the way, so I say shove it as far away as you can and be a blessing to someone!

Friday Favorites: Beach Week

Gals, for the first time ever we took a vacation to the beach, just us 3! On past trips we have always been accompanied with family and friends. It was so wonderful to be with each other (this is rare as Ryan works a TON of long hours in the ER).

We LOVED every single moment of our time together. So much that I was fighting back tears this morning as we said goodbye to the ocean.  I was overwhelmed at the fun we had and memories we made.

Here are some of my favorite moments …

First thing we do upon arrival is to go out to the beach!

Cool Mom

Having sand in our toes and splashing in the ocean is simply the BEST!

We make the first night a date night.

Most other meals we eat in (we like to stay healthy)

My Dress

We wake up each morning and walk the beach

looking for seashells, shark teeth and lots of running and splashing.

We spend the fist half of the day playing in the water and sand

After lunch and a nap for Vivian (essential to get out of the sun/ heat and for me to stay caught up on work) we head back out for more playing.

Last night was a treat with ice cream for all!

One morning we treated Vivian to breakfast and gracious does she love bacon!

These are the days I will remember with great joy and love!!!
