Mamma Monday: Have More Fun!

I joined a group called MOPS this year, Moms of Preschoolers.  It’s a national organization that fosters gatherings of mothers while providing encouragement & support. One of the biggest things I’ve learned once I embarked on this motherhood journey and in life is that it most certainly takes a village.

The MOPS group I joined meets at the church where  Vivian goes to preschool every other Friday and provides fun child care for Vivian!
MOPS groups vary in size but I’m excited that ours is small, under 20 mammas. We all live fairly close which is so nice for the when the opportunity to be there for one another arrises.
One gal lives down the street and said  ‘I knew I recognized you, you must be a fashion blogger. I see you taking your pictures outside my neighborhood’.  I felt a little ‘busted’ as it’s so darn awkward standing on the sidewalk of a street in your get-up hoping no one you know sees you, but she’s so kind and I'm tickled to have a new gal pal around the corner.

I found this on google and even though it has some typos I love it!

The MOPS’s theme this year is ‘Have More Fun’. Count me in!! Since having Vivian I can truly say I’ve had more fun.  Eh ok how about since she’s turned 1. The first year I would call it more sweet and precious.  But now that she runs and plays I also run and play.  We have so much fun with slides, sidewalk chalk and play doh. Oh play doh, you are the current prized possession in my daughter’s life.

We as mammas talked about how we can incorporate more fun into our lives.  We looked at our schedules and wrote out our typical days of the week. I imagine all of ours had work type tasks and and chores.  But I hope that though we have lots of to-dos that keep our households running we also spend time laughing.

I can honestly say my days do have lots of fun in them:
Exercise
Play Outside: Playground, sidewalk chalk, bubbles
Play Inside: Gymnastics, Library, home (play doh, blocks and paint with water are the current favs)
Blog
Shop/Errands (thank you preschool!)
Bible Study
Junior League Activities
Gal Pal meet ups
Date Nights

BUT there’s those chores UGH I’m particular about having a clean house and almost every mamma groaned about laundry.  Laundry’s not so much a big deal in our house but it’s also just us 3 and Ryan wears scrubs every day. Toddlers are messy and create clutter so I’m battling every day.
You can pause those tasks or delegate (another blog post).
Or just chose to postpone to do something fun.

Life is to be enjoyed! You’ve been blessed with it and with a family to share it with.

So what are you going to add to have more fun??

I’m adding reading and more exercise classes to my workout routine.  Both of these things have happened less since Vivian was born. Reading takes time and classes are at scheduled times and that can be challenging to coordinate with child care and to align with her awake/nap schedule.
Whatever fun looks like to you, maybe it’s baking (bless those that actually like being in the kitchen), crafting (can’t understand that either) or a sport. Do your best to incorporate that.  I encourage you not to stress about how often but just that it happens.  Alone time is refreshing but sharing your fun with your family can be so rewarding.

But First Makeup

TGIF! Gals, I hope you've had a great first week of Fall, even if you're like me and having to pretend there's a chill in the air. More like desperately wishing since it's been in the 90's!

I haven't shared a beauty post in a while so I thought I'd let you in on what I'm wearing on my face these days.  I'm a creature of habit for the most part but I occasionally change it up / add something new.  Most of the time it's because the product I've been using for 10+ years is discontinued #bitter.  There's been a few and I'm still not over it!

I do wear makeup 99.9% of the time.  It's become much softer now that I'm older and out of the office. But I'm not comfortable in my own skin without it and I'm perfectly ok with that.
I know pretty is as pretty does! #amen
BUT I feel more confident and happier with a little color so I wear it.

I'm going to share these in order of how I apply them ...

Under Eye Concealer - I don't battle dark circles but being as fair skinned as I am I need to conceal.  This stuff is AMAZING!  Lightly pat a tee tiny amount and it stays put all day.

Foundation - I've been using this one for a couple of years now and love the even coverage.  I have quite a bid of redness to my face and it does a great job of giving my skin an all over tone.  Now, the brush you use is just as important as the product.  I use this one for a soft smooth finish.
Also the pump top (annoying you have to buy separate) is well worth it. This bottle lasts me almost a full year with daily usage!

Finishing Powder -  this one is a bargain and creates a matte finish setting the concealer and foundation.

Bronzer - Blush - Highlighter Palette -  I bought this one I believe in the Spring on a Sephora sale and have been quite happy with it. The bronzer isn't too brown for my fair face and I love the coral tones of the blushes. The highlighter adds just the right amount of glow :)

Eyelid Primer - I've been using this for over 10 years and it really does a great job of holding the eyeshadow in place and making the colors richer.  I also think it makes you use less shadow.

Eyeshadow - My go-to is Urban Decay's Naked 3, the pinks are perfect to compliment my green eyes. But like most big palettes I use several select colors on the regular while the other half are rarely/never used.  I added this smaller palette of purples, again great compliment to green eyes this year and actually use all the colors depending on the occasion. It comes in many other color families.

Eyebrow Powder - Having red hair means that my eyelashes and brows are very light so I need to add color and thickness.  I've been using this cake powder for several years now and am clearly very happy with it. I use a flat brush to apply it.

Eyeliner - This one is new and for nearly 2 weeks I've been happy with it. I wore black liquid liner until this year and am happier using lighter shades and pencils for a softer look.  This one is in a dark purple (black violet) which again compliments green eyes.

Mascara - This one is new too.  I've been using it for about a month and very happy.  I've been struggling with mascaras because mine was discontinued UGH after trying 3 others this one is my favorite and I plan on sticking with it.

Lipstick - This one is new this year too.  It's more of a pink- nude color (bloom) and in a matte finish. I like bright red lips, but again am moving more towards a softer look. It stays so long and doesn't dry at all.  This will be a forever lipstick!
Bonus:  It doesn't come off on Vivian when I cover her in kisses 😘

With soooo many product lines and options out there make up can be OVERWHELMING.  Use what you like and keep the amount of products simple.  You don't need 7 eyeshadow palettes!

FYI: one of the MANY things motherhood has taught me is how to do my makeup in 5 min flat!

May we all wear happy smiles like Vivian's with her play doh!

I hope you have a wonderful first weekend of Fall!

Walk Tall Crocodile

While the calendar says Fall, the weather still says 'Hotter than the devil's kitchen'! Ok, maybe not that hot (I'm still feeling the sweat from last month). There has been a break in the humidity and my morning runs don't threaten heat stroke so I suppose I'll be grateful for that and patiently await the chill.

And when that chill arrives, I guarantee you I'll be walking tall in these red croc boots!  I purchased them during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in July and have been admiring them in my closet ever since. My Grandma and Mamma both love red shoes and while red isn't on the top of my list of color favorites, something about red shoes is just sassy & classic. I'm even getting Vivian a pair!
The croc texture makes them luxurious! And block heel super comfortable.

Now, this blouse has had my eye the moment it came out months ago. However, the price tag had my eyes wide in shock. Like a lot of pretty pieces I lust over, I watch and scour various websites for the opportunity to catch them on sale.  Sometimes my desire for the item fades or solidifies and in that case I'm confident on my purchase and the price. The day this blouse was marked down I went into the store and ordered it in my size for over half off :)

Tip: if an item is out of stock online and you have the option to visit the store front, they can often find the piece at another store and have it shipped.

The smocking and pleating are trending but the oxford blue is timeless.
I love oxford blue with deeper, rich hues (think hunter greens, plums, harvest gold and deep red).
It adds a soft contrast.  Oxford blue is one of my favorite neutrals all year long!

When it comes to jewelry I LOVE big rings! It's unexpected since I have super tiny hands (my wedding rings are a size 3.5).  My wrists are very petite too so bracelets are often too big and fall off and also super annoying when you're trying to work on the computer.

Kate Spade has always made the most beautiful and unique costume jewelry and this large stoned ring (comes in several colors) is no exception.

If your more of a delicate jewelry gal Gorjana is my fav! I wear her pieces daily.

The smocked waist creates such a pretty shape on your waist and on the cuffs allows for you to pull up the sleeves for just the right length.

Toddler Toys

What a terrific Tuesday it is! And if you're feeling like yours isn't so terrific stop for a minute and remember your blessings.  You are privileged to get to do all the things you do.

This morning after taking Vivian to her classroom I gathered with the Mammas of the other students in her preschool class over coffee to get to know one another.  It was so sweet!  I'm a super extrovert so I get extra excited to meet new people and join in on social engagements but I'm also aware that not everyone is comfortable in those situations.  We were all welcoming and friendly to one another as our tots brought us together to a table of common ground.  We are all navigating life with littles full of energy.  While our families look different, some of the mammas have 3 children, some have 2 and two of us only had 1, we were all helpful in giving advise and encouragement.
We also all live very close in neighborhoods less than a mile apart.

I shared with you gals the importance of fellowship last week on this post and I can't emphasize enough just how valuable community is.  I know that we all left the table with more smiles and laughs than most Tuesday mornings and with the feeling that our village grew.
We all had long to-do lists and preschool time is our most valuable hours but the time together was 100% worth it.

She was a superstar at school today so a quick swing was earned before nap time!

Let's back up several days .... This past weekend we traveled to the NC coast to visit Vivian's Grandparents. Traveling with a little can create stress or anxiety but I've been working hard to stay calm and keep 'what-ifs' at bay. I packed and prepared and she did wonderfully!
Jamming out to Taylor Swift's new album kept both our spirits up during the horrible interstate traffic.

Now that she's approaching 2 (I can't even believe it) she's branching out when it comes to toys.

Here are some that we've added lately that are fun, incorporate learning and will grow with her ....
We try and play outside as much as possible!

This bubble machine is the BEST!  She loves the little jars of bubbles with the wands but this is extra special and she just runs and runs in them.

This barn is just like the one her Daddy had as a little boy.  It has animals and lots of latches for her to learn to open and close. She loves to carry it around despite that it's heavy and nearly as big as she is.

She even tries to get the cat to play with her.

And then there's play doh.  Her Aunt Rebecca gave her a single purple jar of this magic in her Easter basket and it's truly her most prized possession.  She carries it around everywhere.
We bought her 2 new jars this weekend.

This tractor set came recommended by one of my most favorite fellow bloggers.  Do Say Give has lots of wonderful information on motherhood and gifting.
She loves the animal sounds and music but just don't push the button that makes it move - she's terrified! haha

Sidewalk chalk is a great toy because it's usable, washable, doesn't clutter your home and adds so much cheer to our property.  I smile every time we get in the car to leave or arrive home.

This magic coloring mat uses pens with water! It helps with coloring skills and doesn't make a mess. We also use these small pads when on the go or out to eat.

The gal loves to play ball

Whenever she's out and about with me she loves to carry a purse! Be still my heart little mini! I've been letting her play with some of my smaller inexpensive bags.
I'm getting her this purse for Christmas

Her favorite toy of all time is still books! She will let me read to her over and over and over again (I've actually hid some just to give myself a break)
We keep a stack in the car.

Praise for the balloons at Nordstrom! They make her day!

Since I'm against clutter, I'm strategic about what toys actually live in our home.  I leave things like this cash register that she loves for the library and school. But may be worth having if you have multiple children.

She loves to push things like this popper. Probably because she sees me keeping our floors clean. We have this one and love it but there are tons of options for push toys here.

We also just got her these blocks that keep her very entertained!

Each child is different and plays differently. Some of the best toys aren't toys at all.  Vivian is thrilled with the contents of our recycle bin or a stack of solo cups.

Melissa & Doug and Lakeshore have some of my favorite toys!

Friday Favorites: Cool Duds

TGIF!  Gals, the temps cooled off a bit the past couple of days! #praise
And I'm so grateful for it because Vivian and I both love to be outside.

Here are my favorites I've found & think are fabulous ....

Snow Leopard Sweater
My younger sister actually shared this one with me.  We both are obsessed!
It was actually available at Nordstrom but sold-out immediately.

Plaid Blouse
This top says 'Yay Fall'.  I actually tried it on in store and loved it but decided to think on it as there are some other things I'm deciding between.  You can't have it all gals.
The fabric has a strong luster to it, which makes it dressy and has a boxy fit. The ruffles add a nice feminine balance to the plaid print.

Snake Tiered Skirt
Obsessed with snake print everything and with tiered maxi skirts.  I feel like the tiers add flair without lots of volume.

Ruffle Floral Dress
The soft blush and rust colors in this floral print are so sweet for fall.  The fabric is just delightful with the ruffles. This dress would be beautiful with pumps or booties.

Long Corduroy Blazer
My favorite color in one of my favorite wardrobe pieces!  I love blazers and this one in a longer length in soft corduroy is perfect for the season.  It would be super chic paired with jeans.

Snake Print Midi Dress
I have a snake print dress (and several other pieces) but if I didn't I'd love to have this one. I love the pale blush color.

Embroidered Puff Sleeve Top
Gals, I have this top and love it.  Embroidery is one of my favorite embellishments.
I did get this top in a petite size as I think it runs slightly big.

Velvet & Snake Loafers

THESE. SHOES. I die!!!!! They are #1 on my Christmas list and I'm already begging for Santa to let me have them early for maximum strutting in their spectacular glory!
The avocado green velvet paired with the mustard snake is a luxurious match!
And oh the shine of the gold hardware!
I'm swooning!

Oblong Hoops
Love this modern take on a classic hoop!

Emerald Croc Crossbody
If you're looking to add color this season, make it emerald! This bag is a bargain (it's faux croc).

Maxi for Fall

This. Dress.

I saw it displayed in the front of the store and made a beeline inside to try it on.  My first thought was it's going to swallow my petite frame whole ... just maybe it comes in petite sizing.  My regular size was there and to my surprise it fit! Without puddling on the ground doing the tip toe test (trying to envision with a little heel if I would still need to hem).

The colors, the beading, the print, the mock neckline, the sheer billowing sleeves, the trimmed tiers on the skirt, the fitted bodice, these are the things that make this dress beautiful!

It also has that 70's vibe that I swoon over.  Mid-century style is so me!

Note:  I did see that there are just a few sizes available online in petite.  If mine was one of them I would have opted for that just to shorten the sleeves and hem a tad. But my heels are mid-height and work just fine.

I love belts so I added one to break up the print of the dress and add my own style to it.

Maxi dresses aren't just for summer.  In a chiffon or synthetic poly they're great for the cooler months too.

Life's more fun when you're laughing! #truth
