Smocked Frock

Gals, I'm loving dresses with a smocked bodice.  It adds just the right amount of stretch and shape to an otherwise billowing dress.  Smocking can be tricky.  It's super clingy and can accentuate therefore opt for prints and small areas  like the chest and waist. I would avoid the hip area.

I love this dress for it's vine print with birds, pineapples and hibiscus flowers.  The fabric is crisp with the perfect amount of weight for all season wear.  While the cut is great for warmer months with a pair of sandals the colors are gorgeous for Fall. A brown Moto jacket or blue denim jacket with booties would be the perfect styling this season.

Mamma Monday: Poppins Purse

Happy Monday gals! A woman purse isn't just another stylish accessory (although your darn right it will be!), it carries so many essentials to get us through anything our day make bring us.

A purse is a personal thing, it's style should reflect the lady carrying it. Personally I prefer smaller, structured ladylike handbags but I will say this tote Ryan gifted me as a baby shower gift is so incredibly useful to hold ALL the things for any occasion - meetings, play dates, travel ...

Note: I always have the sides cinched for a sleeker shape.

For today's post I'm not going to get into the many styles of handbags a gal can choose from but more about the handy dandy things I carry in mine that, well, are handy dandy!

For every day going here and there I carry a medium sized cross body bag, but when I need to be prepared #momlife I carry a tote with these things always in toe.
I'm not that gal that carries everything but the kitchen sink as I like to keep my bag light (I'm already hauling a 25 pounder on my hip) but these items keep things running smoothly through the daily bumps.

Tip: Keep small items in zippered pouches to stay organized. Or try one of these inserts - my gal pal loves hers.
Not pictured: my wallet (I carry a very small one) and my phone (used to take said picture)

Bandaids, safety pins, floss, stain stick, and a nail file are priceless little tools.  Bandaids aren't just for when your little scrapes their knee, they're also great for when a pair of shoes is rubbing your feet badly.
Safety pins solve a lot of wardrobe malfunctions or even if your necklace breaks #toddler.
Floss is self explanatory (see also snack pictured) and the stain stick saves the day when that delicious salad you ordered at lunch with the ladies splatters dressing on your blouse.
And have you ever snagged a nail? If you know, you know!

Even if you don't know me IRL it's obvious I have a lion mane for hair, so boppy pins and a strong pony tail must be readily available to tame it.

I ALWAYS carry an ink pen and note pad of some sort with me at all times.  I'm an avid, some may say obsessed (can't find the lie), list maker & note taker. Ideas come to me and since becoming a Mamma my brain isn't as sharp at recalling those thoughts & ideas as it once was. Only when attending a meeting do I carry larger items like my portfolio, agenda or computer.

Despite my newest accessory, the mask, I can not help myself when it comes to wearing lipstick. sigh. I literally find myself applying it before walking out the door or in my car before going into a store. Bless me, this habit can't die. And I clearly like variety. I also like to have some pressed powder to take the shine off and to serve as a mirror.

Sunglasses also live in my car, along with a phone charger, more snacks, a basket toys for Vivian that I can easily throw in and wipes/napkins.

This outfit is my uniform.  You will find me most often wearing a crisp white top and jeans.

Friday Favorites: Rain Jacket

TGIF! Despite the gray skies and rain here today there is so much sunshine around us!

She is our sunshine!

Gracious do I love to be outside over anywhere else but the rainy days give me rest.  I slow down, cozy up in the quiet and give gratitude for all the wonderful blessings around me.

Today Ryan and I took Vivian to school together and enjoyed the morning with each other.  Our date may have been running errands but it was sweet to have time alone and to hold his hand before he's back at the hospital all weekend.

The occasion didn't call for getting gussied up but I did have a cute rain jacket to wear.  It's important to have pieces that are both functional and stylish.

Here are some practical and pretty rain jackets ....

English Garden

Style is all about incorporating things that you love. Colors, florals, embellishments and design.  I love blue & white (it's the palette for my home decor), hydrangeas (they're my sister's favorite and I adore her) and a touch of modern details on classic silhouettes.

This dress spoke to me for all of these pretty elements. It made me feel like I belonged in an English garden sipping tea. #pinkiesup
I watched it for months, waiting for it to go on sale and when it did and arrived at my home it sparked joy!

As I always do, I replaced the fabric sash with a belt of my own.  I love that the sleeves don't overwhelm my arms/hang over my hands. The fabric has the most subtle luxurious texture. Its almost an all season dress and certainly fits across many occasions.

Wear pieces that incorporate the things that you love!

Bold Shoulder Sweaters

Gals, it feels like Fall! The air is crisp and temperatures chilly making it sweater weather.

Sweaters can be very expensive, especially in pure cashmere or wool and/or with embellishments. But you can be warm and on trend all while refraining from breaking your budget.

These sweaters all have modern bold shoulder designs without the bold price tag!

Friday Favorites: Home Decor with Grace Mitchell

TGIF! Gals, when it comes to home design I feel like HGTV really does have a show to fit every style.  My home emcompases traditional, colorful and sentimental style. Designer Grace Mitchell's show One of a Kind speaks my language.  She believes that a home should tell the story of the people who live there and I couldn't agree more.  She loves color and wallpaper (be still my heart) and can get really creative and very quirky!

She recently launched a product line with At Home and I couldn't wait to go see it. I went first thing Monday after I dropped Vivian off at preschool. I had already browsed the collection online and had a few things picked out.

Here's what I brought home ...

She designed several pressed flower ceramic pieces including canisters and dishes.  I decided on this pitcher as it is great for serving and as a vase for flowers.  I don't keep anything but the coffee maker and knife block on our kitchen counters but if I did the canisters would have came home. They'd even be pretty in a bathroom.

Here are more pieces that I love ...

A great piece for hallways, entryways and bedrooms

You could even hang this on the wall rather than for serving.

gorgeous piece for serving

I have a few of these to display sentimental items, like the corks and placards from our wedding day.

A great gift option to house sentimental keepsakes.

This would be great to have on hand for gifts.

Such a pretty mirror to set on a dresser or vanity.
