Maxi Skirt 5 Ways

Happier than a seagull with a French fry!

Happy Monday gals!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  Mine was as good as it gets. I had a splashing time with the finest gal pals under the sun at the beach.  We soaked up vitamin sea sitting on the sand, toasted each other and the good in our lives and stayed up way too late sharing laughs so big it hurt.

One of my favorite pieces for the summer season is a light maxi skirt for it's comfort, pretty patterns and versatility.  I also think they make you look longer. This one is a gem! Found it for a fabulous price and it comes with fast shipping (a luxury these days). This skirt has several color/print options, light wrinkle resistant fabric, elastic draw string waist for easy adjustment and fit but best of all, it has pockets!

Note: I'm 5'2" and barefoot in these pictures so that you can see the length.

Here are 5 ways to style a maxi skirt for any occasion ...

Sleeveless Denim Jacket & Here! Denim goes with everything I love this top, this one & this one.

Over your bathing suit - similar bikini

Tip: Add some dainty gold jewelry

Tips:
Knot it on the side to create a fitted shape
cuff the sleeves
add a long necklace to add interest on top of the solid color

Friday Favorites: Vaca Dress

TGIF! Gals, guess where I am ... Sitting with my gal pals at the beach!!!! WAHOOOOO

I'm so jazzed words can not describe! A little backstory: Our 10 year anniversary is tomorrow but Ryan's working all weekend.  While discussing when and how we were going to celebrate on a stroll with Vivian one morning Ryan had decided to arrange with my two besties from college and my two sisters to gift me a weekend away at the beach. #BESThusbandever

I flew the coop yesterday afternoon and was greeted with a pretty pink sunset over the ocean.

After I finish this second cup of coffee (we stayed up way too late chit chatting) I'm suiting up to be toes in the sand, wind in my hair and a good book in my hand!

While the days will be sunny and relaxing the nights are going to be full of energy.  We're riding bikes down to the beach restaurants tonight (Lord, protect me it's been 9 years since I've pedaled) and tomorrow we have reservations for a sassier night out.
This year has certainly taught us what a treasure a night out is! I truly hope you've had one or have one planned and when you do here are some dresses that are lively as the fun you'll have in them!

Rosy Posy

Who couldn't use some rosy posy delight?!! While we know that perception isn't always reality, presenting yourself to yourself and others in a delightful way can actually create delight!

The pretty prink blooms, in a vintage style print, are so lovely in this flowy maxi design. The ruffled wide scoop neck keeps it modern with a touch of sass. The fabric is light and breathable but with the right amount of weight to lay beautifully and resist wrinkles. The waist seam is just above the natural waist creating a long silhouette that floats away from the body at it's smallest point. Meaning it's beyond flattering!

Note:  You can pull the shoulders down for an off the shoulder style, but personally I avoid strapless bras like the plague (or covid-19). Also, off the shoulder is cute but I fell like I have t-rex arms not being able to extend beyond my elbows because the garment will snap up and I'll have to shimmy it back down. #annoying

This ladylike dress speaks for itself so minimal jewelry along with neutral shoes & handbag pair perfectly.

I chose a strappy heel for a dressier look and a little height but a flat sandal or even a sneaker would be just as chic and comfortable.

Come On In

Come and knock on our door .... We'll be waiting for you :)

We are finally at a place where we are able to open our doors to our family and friends.

Note:  When initiating or responding to an invitation to gather I've been letting others know that it's welcome 'when they are comfortable'.  It's important to be respectful to everyone's place during this pandemic.

I despise the phrase that everyone uses 'please excuse the mess' when someone walks through the front door. Your home is where you live your life, creating memories not a place that someone walks into intending to white glove your belongings. They come to spend time with you, filling your space with their contribution to those memories.

Confession:  I'm not self conscious about our mess (I diligently keep that managed) but I am about the renovations and decor projects we haven't completed yet. I clearly need to listen to my own advise!

The key gals, is to be prepared so that your focus is on your guests.  Stash a few things away and add a few steps to your routine and you'll be opening your front door with a relaxed smile rather than a stressed out sigh after shoving and scrambling to make your space presentable.

Below are things I keep on hand and best practices I maintain so that I'm always ready for company.

This is my most favorite scent. It's pleasant to walk into a nice smelling home.
I also keep a few small ones stored away as they make great gifts for hostesses, thank you or any other occasion that comes up.

I have quite the collection of vintage and embroidered hand towels that add prettiness to the powder room.
It's the little things that make a difference. And while our powered room needs big things to refine it these will have to do for now.
They're another great gift option!

Snacks
Crackers, nuts and jelly don't perish and make a great snack platter when you don't have notice.
When you do have time to prepare, I like to have fruit, nice deli meats and easy dips to serve.
It's not a meal, but a nice little something so your guests aren't hungry.
Also, snacking aligns with watching kids during play dates and with my lack of culinary skills!

Beverages
Flavored carbonated water, coffee, and wine are things that are always in plenty in our home.
For an extra touch serve chilled water infused with citrus out of a pitcher.

Housekeeping

When it comes to cleanliness I live by maintaining a standard of shine throughout the day.
Toys are put away after lunch prior to nap (I make it a point to include Vivian in the clean up in efforts to teach her) and before bedtime so that we start and end the day clutter free. I also don't allow toys throughout the home - they are confined to her containers in the den and in her room.

As for the kitchen, the sink is always empty and the only things allowed on the counters are the coffee maker, knife block and hand soap by the sink.  I also clean the counters and floors daily.
When doing laundry I only remove clothes out of the dryer if I can immediately fold them and put them away.
For our bedroom, the bed is made first thing and the only thing on our bathroom vanities are our toothbrushes and hand soap.

If ALL items have a home and there isn't any excess then maintaining tidiness is a cinch.

I highly recommend reading and living by this book on tidiness!

Share any house rules with your guests, like taking your shoes off at the door or offering coasters.

Turn on overhead lights and lamps.  A bright home feels happy & cheerful.

Let your guests know where the bathroom is right away. Every one has to go and it makes the departure less awkward if you don't have to interrupt the fellowship to ask for directions.

Have the refreshments displayed so that they feel comfortable enjoying them.
Should you have to ask they'll probably decline (and be hungry) as to not be an inconvenience and it takes away from the fellowship if you're distracted putting it together.

Don't forget about your china & silver.
It doesn't do any good stored away and you don't need a special occasion or holiday to use it.
Pizza night is special enough for the fancy dishes. Personally, I believe in beautiful presentation (hence this blog).
Tip: Antique stores are great places to build your inventory of fine serving ware.

Open your doors to fellowship!

Friday Favorites: Backyard Beachin

TGIF! In our land of make believe, our backyard is the beach.  Just 2 weeks ago we were supposed to actually be at the beach sharing salty kisses in the sand but circumstances (durn virus) stole our plans and truth be told I'm still pouting about it.  So I've decided to join Vivian in her pretend play and create a seaside world right here at home. I've never been a big traveler but having Vivian Louise drives me to experience new and fun things.  Going to the beach is something I want us to share time and time again, as much as life allows.  There's so much beauty and joy that happens in such a serene place.

Just add a little water and imagination and the beach is in reach.

We also visit the sandbox at the playground to practice castle building.

Here are my favorite things to bring beach vibes to your backyard ...

Several color & monogram options

 Pop Up Sun Tent
This is great for outdoor events to protect you from the sun.

We love this! It folds up so we can take it everywhere. And it accolades another little.
We use it for after dinner strolls so she can pile in her toys and recently for our outdoor church services.

I love these products! More here

Straw Hat
How chic and ladylike is this?!!

Hammock

While I'd prefer to be lounging in a chair with my toes in the sand listening to the waves while I read, our backyard hammock will do just nicely.  And the birds chirping is a sound just as beautiful.

While our backyard view isn't a sunset over the ocean, it is our home and where we make our happy memories.
