Jean Jacket

With all the craziness going on around us (just watch the news I'd rather not spoil this post) how about we just put on something that won't fluster, a jean jacket.  I can't imagine any wardrobe where a jean jacket wouldn't play an essential role.  They're as classic as a pair of jeans and just as useful and stylish. They come in so many washes, fits and embellishments so there's surely one that will speak to your style.

And now that Spring is in reach it kicks your heavy coats back in the closet and tops almost ANY outfit with a lighter warmth and cooler vibes.

Seriously gals, a jean jacket is a forever classic pieces that styled over your outfits or even just buttoned up as a structure top like I've done will create a chic yet casual look that will fit across occasions all year long.

I also must promote the flattering fit of wide leg crop pants.  They're slimming on the leg, allow for any shoe pairing and oh so comfortable.

Not so Basic

Gals, 'Basic' is a trending word to describe something/actions that is mainstream/popular or just 'plain'.  Well I don't like either word .... I prefer simple or classic.

From a glance this outfit is 'basic' but let me assure you it's far from ordinary.

My go-to is a white top.  I have countless.  I got it from my Mamma, and Grandma. Paired with jeans and flats, it's effortless, comfortable and more than just classic - it's classy!

The trick to avoid looking 'basic' is to keep the pieces modern and with detail.

Now I know this post is taking a focus on the white top and jeans look but I have to take a turn and share with you the AMAZINGNESS that is these skinny jeans!  Gals, I actually feel and look skinny in them.  I do not have skinny legs and these jeans make them look longer and leaner.

They are a higher rise, which can be hard for me because I have a super short torso ... my hips and ribs are just a couple inches apart. But these are just perfect and allow for shorter tops. The coloring and softness just right.  I promise you will LOVE & LIVE in these jeans. Go now and get a pair!

PS If you bring in an old pair of jeans you can get $20 off a new pair :) #yourwelcome

Now the white top, it's a button up with a collar but the modern detailing is in the tiers. Not Basic.
It's super soft and easy to wear casually with jeans or with dress pants/skirts.

Side Note: For my fellow nursing Mammas it's perfect!!

Oh, I can't forget to talk about these flats.  They were included in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale back in July and sold out almost immediately during the pre-sale.  I took Vivian Louise to the mall during the sale to give it a peak before I ordered online and sure enough to my surprise there was a pair of these flats on the table.  I quickly checked the size and it was a 6!  I slipped my foot in and score!  Next thing I know I was at the register.  These shoes were pricey so I had to take advantage of the sale.
The pointed toe, front slit and d'orsay design is chic and polished. Also leg lengthening!

Question, do you gals want sizing??  I've never included it but wonder if it would be helpful.

On Track

This week I've been all about getting back 'on track'.  Mr and I traveled to Charlotte last week/weekend (my home with the exception of undergrad and fingers crossed our soon to be home!!) to see our family & friends before he's gone for the next several months with very tiny breaks - duty calls!

I have a horrible habit of not unpacking for several days - confession: sometimes a week.  It drives us both crazy to bring home clutter and disarray.  My sleep and routine are always off when I travel. I live on a fairly strict routine - type A for sure! So needless to say I love going away but happy to be back to the same old schedule.

Mondays are getting back into the swing of things but Fridays, those are all about the finish.  You spend all week trying to stay on track with tasks and responsibilities, and then it's time to wrap it all up and cheers to the weekend!

What better way to get weekend ready then in a comfy pair of track pants.  They're an in-between trouser and yoga pant.  Please don't wear yoga pants outside of the gym ... it's a HUGE pet peeve of mine! I could elaborate but it just makes me cringe. Just Don't Do It!!

Ok back on topic, track pants, I like pairing them with a stiletto heel - contrasting the comfy with the dressy.  They're drapey so plenty of room but have a fitted waist and ankle cuffs to create shape.
Truth: I kinda feel like a bad-a when I wear these.

I kept the look simple with a soft tee and denim jacket.  And this bag! Seriously one of my new favs and totally unlike my go-to purse style.  All my bags are structured and ladylike but this one brings sass with it's zippered hardware and fringe details.  The leather, woah it's like butter!

I'm back on the road this weekend to Raleigh to celebrate one of my dear friends/bridesmaid as she shops for her wedding dress ... Cheers to the Weekend - Celebrate Cheerfully!

Basics

Basics aren't Boring. They are Classic and Effortlessly Chic.

What makes a basic? Basics are foundation pieces.  Typically solid or traditional print, minimal to no embellishments, and without extreme design.  What do I mean by extreme?
For blazers no crazy shoulder pads, ruffles or lapels. For jeans no loud stitching or coloring. You get the idea, stay away from funky and short-lived trends.

A soft semi-fitted tee, straight leg medium/dark wash jean, black blazer and pumps are basics for a casual chic look perfect for Friday's at the office or a weekend brunch.
