Drop it Low

Dropping it low today and I don’t mean dance moves; although I will confess I had some saucy skills out in the club during my college years!  Who am I kidding?! I’ll get down at a wedding any time!  But today I’m talking about waist lines.  Drop waist lines.  You see them all the time on wedding gowns and here lately on boho tops with a long peplum.  But a drop waist on dresses isn’t so common.  At least not since the 20’s.

Typically I wear my waist lines at the natural waist which is a bit higher than most gals prefer but it works for my body shape (and for tucking) and I find it elongates the body and I need all the help I can get!
A drop waist dress is flirty and creates a flouncy strut as you walk moving around the pleated/ruffled hem.
It’s different and unexpected.
The trick is to make sure the dress isn’t too big. Otherwise you’ll look like a big sack with no hint that there’s a body underneath.  The dress should skim over the hips – like a gradual angle from your ribs down.

I was tickled when I found this dress in a sweet shimmering peach.  I love the detailed hem with pieces of pleated fabric to add layered movement and detail.

This dress is a prime example of the importance of a racer back bra.  Gals, you must have one!  I wear mine all the time and find it not only very comfortable and supportive, but essential in dressing for cut in sleeveless garments and tanks.

I styled this drop waist dress with statement earrings in emerald green and a lace up pump for a dressier look.  You’d be equally as peachy keen in a more casual pairing with wedges.

Peachy

Isn't this dress just Peachy?!!!

I've always loved the color peach.  It's sweet and soft and reminds me of warm weather.  One of my favorite treats are ripe juicy peaches bought on the roadside while traveling on vacation.  Something about the spontaneity of pulling off the road for fresh air and picking up homegrown elements for a backyard supper filled with carefree happiness that makes me smile ... and want to go pack my bags!

I'm all about a good sale - I don't believe in paying full price - unless I absolutely can't avoid it.  Loft is amazing for it's generous promotions.  I find myself frequently taking advantage.  This dress along with a couple other pieces made it in my shopping bag for a steal!

Besides the color, the laser cut scalloping, crop top design and open back are delicate details that make it ladylike and yet very modern.

The open back is just a sneak peak of interest but still provides ample coverage.

This week I'm going to share my love for these trending crop top dresses.  They create flattering lines and are a modern twist on the ever so popular styles of the 1960's.
Mid-Century fashion - it's my muse!

CO-ORD

Look twice as nice in a two piece or 'Co-Ord'!

Coordinate sets are a top and bottom designed in the same fabric and print.  Matchy-matchy sets make choosing an outfit stress-free, while the ability to mix and match the separates creates opportunity for a variety of outfits.   Embrace DIY dressing and put your own spin on co-ordinating by mixing the pieces with tops and bottoms from your wardrobe.

I'm really loving the 'twosie' trend. It's a fun spin on suiting but with prints and colors. I do however believe, as a woman over 30, that the two pieces should over lap.  Leave the crop top sets and exposed mid section to the younger gals or for a night out with your gal pals.

I love this co-ord set for it's textured tweed in a springy peach color.  I plan to pair the top with ivory trousers & white jeans and the skirt with a navy or grey blouse.
