Friday Favorites: Light & Airy Sundresses

TGIF! We've spent the past week at the coast where all I want to wear is easy breezy, light and airy sundresses. The kind that barely touch you and blow in the wind.

Here are some light and airy sundresses ...

Bright Block Print

The beauty of block prints can be found in wallpapers, table linens, upholstery and in fashion.  I've seen these patterned florals for several seasons now and find them to be quite lovely.

Typically I see them in pastels and muted shades but this dress, in a rich vibrant mint with bright orange flowers really stands out! The halter neckline is flattering in that it showcases the shoulders, however it does require a strapless bra (you can't have it all!). It also has a sliming natural waist with a tie back, subtle cut outs on the sides and a skirt that has pockets!

Swing Dress

A swing dress is a fun, stylish and most importantly a cool option in the Summer! The trapeze design is flowy and full of movement (meaning it twirls a little on its own when you walk).

Since this dress has ample volume it's important to balance with a hem above the knee, and minimal to no sleeves.  My favorite part of this dress is the elongating deep v-neck and oversized ruffle on the shoulder that creates a shapely silhouette.

I'm all about a metallic sandal!
Clogs aren't for everyone but I find them to be comfortable
plus they add a touch of height.

The ruffles continue down the back!

Tan is Terrific

Tan, the color of sand, can often have a reputation of being bland and boring. I say nonsense! Tan can be terrific.  It's all in the details.  A garment, particularly in a soft neutral, needs interest to prevent it from falling flat. Soft patterns, embellishments and fun designs can give it so much depth.

This dress for instance, has a textured braided roping highlighting its shape, a soft stripe pattern, a modern puff sleeve, and a shirt dress design in a tiered a-line silhouette. All of these details make the tan colors shine in a stylish way.
Fabric also plays a big role, it can completely change the way a piece fits, moves and feels. Smooth or textured it can change the entire look of a garment.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love color when it comes to dressing but every now and then I appreciate the sophistication of a neutral palette.

Friday Favorites: Kiawah Island Vacation

Happy TGIF from Kiawah Island! I am here with Ryan for an annual medical conference he attends.  This trip together each June is one of my favorites not only for the time together just us two but for the destination. This quiet scenic island is so beautiful, relaxing and equally fun.

Morning View Outside Our Room

We ride bikes for hours all over, enjoy the beach, he plays ocean side golf, we dine, we cheers and we even enjoy friends we rarely get to see. Oh I love watching all the pretty birds and spotting alligators!

Note: It's also a whole new level of hot and humid. You must accept the sweat and frizzy hair.

Here are my favorites to pack for a trip to Kiawah Island ...

Denim Shorts - I love this design for the longer length Classic Blue Option
Similar Top - Bag Vintage

Sassy suits b/c I'm not chasing a kid around
but rather holding hands with my handsome husband

I just recently added tennis skirts to my workout wardrobe (a full post on them next week)

Sundresses for evening dinners
This one is expected to be back in stock soon - you can get on a waiting list

Sunscreen - Love this powder version to keep my face protected throughout the day

Books - I love reading on vacation!
I'm half way through the Homewreckers & brought One Italian Summer

More to come about our time here & what I'm wearing later - time to unplug and ENJOY!

Summer Mini

Gals, with warmer days ahead comes higher hems. I'm not in my 20's anymore and I believe in dressing modestly but there's something fun about an above the knee sundress.

This one in particular, struck my fancy for its flutter sleeves and flare skirt.  Both elements are flattering, creating a shapely silhouette. They also provide comfort and easy of movement. The print is primarily purple, a favorite, but all the other colors are great for adding complimentary jewelry/accessories.

I also want to note the sweetheart neckline, another feminine and flattering design attribute that makes this dress lovely. I paired this dress with platform heels but a flat sandal and even a fun sneaker is a comfortable and stylish shoe option.

I encourage you to add a short (but not too short) sundress to your summer wardrobe.

Berry Sweet Mommy & Me

Gals, I love matching with my little darling. (I share that surprising no one hehe ) I even love matching with my own Mamma! I often purchase us identical blouses. I find it precious to imitate the ones I love most and plan to do so as long as I can! (Vivian may disagree come her teenage years but I will cross that bridge when we get there).

With Mothers' Day this Sunday I find it perfectly fitting to share these mommy and me dresses!

These sundresses are such an easy breeze and berry sweet option for the summer.  They are available in several prints and colors, with one sure to suit your fancy. The crisp cotton is cool and the design is perfectly fitting for movement and accommodating undergarments (I avoid a strapless bra).

I encourage you to enjoy the warm sunny weather in a sundress, matching or not.

The moment I showed Vivian our matching dresses she was so excited to have her picture taken.

Butterfly Beauty

Gals, it's time. Time to bust out the mini sundresses. The warm temperatures, blooming flowers and chirping birds have confirmed, it is Spring. Spring is my favorite season for its awakening from the cold gloomy winter with warm pastel colors and new blooms.

Tip: If you're fair like me, it also may be time to bust out the tanning lotion!

I shared with you this maxi dress that's flattering for all women and today, the mini version.  It's constructed in a crisp cotton with an elongating split neckline, slimming stretch waist, just the right amount of volume on the sleeve (also slimming)  and a tiered skirt perfect for play and twirling! Oh and pockets :)

I immediately said "Oooo" when I saw this colorful butterfly print. My younger sister was always a butterfly enthusiast so I think of her when I see them. To me they're one of the most magical of God's creations.  Something about their colors and fast flutter, making them impossible to catch, is enticing.

I rarely wear a short hemline but this dress isn't too far above the knee making it comfortable and appropriate for all occasions. Paired with these new favorite platforms (I feel sooo tall in them) that are so comfortable I'm ready for all the Spring shindigs!
