Friday Favorites: Overalls

TGIF! Gals, it's been a fun week. The weather was warm so Vivian & I had lots of play time outside, long sunny runs, and even an outdoor movie night at her school.

Today I had planned on leaving for the beach with my gal pals for a 'Friendsgiving' but it had to be cancelled yesterday afternoon. I imagine we've all had last minute changes and upsets in our plans this year and I reminded myself to make lemonade, find the silver lining and embrace the new plans!

This week I embraced overalls for the first time since elementary school.  The dreaded strap falling in the toilet while at school did me in! And as Southern as I am, I prefer a western/country style over 'farm'. I've warmed up to the idea seeing them continue to trend over the years.

I decided on this dark charcoal pair with more of a fitted & straight leg design that comes at a pretty price!
I added elements of 'me' with a large collared crisp white blouse and my fun sparkly sneakers.

A fitted top and blue denim are so predictable in styling overalls but I encourage you to embrace an alternative wash and top.  I plan to wear these with a chambray shirt, sweatshirt, floral blouse, puff sleeve sweater and lots of color.  Booties will also dress them up a bit.

Try and think of overalls as layering a jumpsuit vs a utilitarian outdoor uniform.

Dots for Decades

Princess Diana & Kate are proof that polka dot dresses are always a beautiful choice. I've had this dress a while and intentionally wanted to post it as often blogs & social media can portray a perspective that you always need new & current pieces.

Note:  I was able to link several current polka dot dress, more proof that they're a forever piece!

Having a wardrobe full of classics is a wise and pretty investment as you'll wear them over time.  I believe the key is choosing design elements that suit you (I love collars and cuffs) and silhouettes that flatter.  I'm fond of a-line cuts and longer lengths.

One may think that that 'classic' means matronly or mature but on the contrary I find them to be feminine and elegant.  Jazz them up with modern shoes & handbags.  Now if you do add pearls, a broach and/or a silk scarf you'll look more like a costume more than an outfit.

I choose black riding boots over a heel to add a casual element.  A wide textured leather belt would have the same affect.  Also, try a sweater over top or Moto jacket.

I love trendy pieces but in a much smaller amount and often paired with my staples. I encourage you reach into your wardrobe and pull out an oldie but goodie and give it new life and wear!

Guide to Gifting

Everywhere we turn and scroll we are influenced to buy things in such a shiny sparkly way. I can't tell you the number of gift guides I've seen and we just entered the month of November, where we are supposed to stop and give thanks for all that we have. While gifting is so fun it can also be overwhelming!

I thought I would share a guide to gifting to encourage you this season of shopping ...

Spirit Over Spending

The reason for the season is celebration and gratitude
Let the spirit of love be the focus of your gifting

Love isn't Measured in Dollar Amounts

You can gift someone without spending.
Your time and talents are the most impactful gifts.
I have friends that can bake, knit, paint etc.. and those gifts I cherish the most!
Fellowship is far more valuable than the find off the shelf.

I like to gift framed photos of memories made together.

Blessing others Shouldn't Break the Bank

If it causes financial strain or is done out of expectation, that is not a gift but a harm.

Avoid Greed & Help Those in Need

Sharing your blessings with those less fortunate is a great gift of love.
Samaritans Purse is one of my favorites
As well as local food banks, coat drives, and children charities.

Gals, the meaning of the gift is more important than the money it cost!!!

These little donut dates with my darling, while not too frequent (I'm opposed to giving her sugar), are full of fun!
We sit out on the patio and talk enjoying the scenery.
She loves to share and only her sweet smile can convince me to take a bite.
Bonus: The guy at the shop never charges me and it's the kindest gesture!

Friday Favorites: Strong Shoulder Tops

TGIF! Gals, it finally feels like fall. It's been down right cold here the past couple of days and I've enjoyed bundling up and being cozy at home with my darling. Before the frigid air hit, I was loving this look with a strong shoulder top. Now, I'm adding a jacket.

I know you're thinking, shoulder pads were the dreadful things your Mamma wore back in day and sigh,  I can't find the lie. But in a modern design, a strong shoulder is one of my favorite trends.

A strong shoulder is truly a flattering element.  It emphasized an hourglass shape adding volume making the waist appear smaller.  It also creates a look of good posture and confidence. And if that's not enough it's slimming on the arms as well.

Here are some sharp strong shoulder tops ...

Fairly Preppy

Gals, this look takes me back! Back to my younger days when my style was sweet and preppy.  I still love prim classic girlie pieces and it's feels nice to wear them.

This fair isle sweater is truly timeless and full of color. Oh, and of course warm!  I actually get really excited about printed knits because most of the time it's tables and tables of solid sweaters in stores.

I highly recommend giving your sweaters it a little front tuck for shape!

This denim skirt is a goodie. So are the boots.  The skirt I've had for 3 years and the boots close to 10! Quality and versatility are so important when choosing pieces for your wardrobe. I can style both of these countless ways with what is in my closet. I take care of my clothing with dry cleaning and never putting them in the dryer. And for my shoes, I store them neatly and give them a good polish and sole repair when needed.

With all the trendy embellishments out there, don't neglect the timeless pretty ones you already have!
