Armor of God

 Happy Monday!

Gals, to say I love a pretty outfit is an understatement. I believe in dressing beautifully in what you wear and in all aspects of your life. While going naked isn't an option the clothes aren't the most important things I wear.

Vivian and I listen to these kids' christian songs in the car (recorded by my neighbor and my car is the only way to play the cd's that he gave us! #oldschool) and one of them is called 'Put on the Armor of God'. There are trumpets playing and Vivian does this cute soldier dance in her car seat. This song has really been on my heart lately. I've learned and read about wearing the armor of God many times in my life but never studied or made more of it.

I decided to tape the list of armor onto the wall mirror in my closet as a reminder of the most important things to wear to get me through my day.

Paul writes ...

Ephesians 6:10–18

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Wearing the Armor of God will help us defend ourselves throughout the day so that we may spend our time glorifying God.

1. Belt of Truth

The belt piece of a soldier's uniform carries his sword and holds everything together. Truth holds us together and is found in the Bible.

Start and end each day in the Word.  Wake up a little early and get into His Word without distraction. That's so important!
Once everyone is tucked in at night pick up your bible over a screen and wrap up your day in His truth.
Immersing yourself in Scripture will guide you in whatever you're facing.

2. Breastplate of Righteousness
The breastplate was to protect vital organs during unexpected attach when the shield couldn't be drawn fast enough.  We have NO righteousness of our own but only through Him. His righteousness is our breastplate. By His power we have to choose to do the right.

Acts of kindness, compassion and removing unrighteous influences (media comes to mind) are ways we can use our breastplate.

3. Sandals with the Gospel of Peace
Roman soldiers wore sandals with thick soles to protect their feet, wraps to hold them firm and spikes to keep them steady and grounded.
We can be grounded and secure in the truth of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. This hope in Him is our foundation.

We can share this truth with others and in the way we live our lives.

4. Shield of Faith
The shield was made of many materials and a soldiers primary defense.
Our shield is faith in God's promises to protect, provide and always be present with us. He is our power and works everything for good.

Band together with other believers can also help grow your faith in Him.

5. Helmet of Salvation
Your head is the most vulnerable so a helmet is crucial. Without it the rest of the armor is useless.
Our salvation, believing that Jesus died for your sins and having the Holy Spirit swell in you equips you to face the dark times. Feed your mind with spiritual things like listening to podcasts throughout the day.

6. Sword of the Spirit
All other pieces of armor are for defense while the sword is the weapon.
The Bible is our weapon to defend against the enemy.

Get into His Word and seek out His will by reading.

7. Prayer
In prayer we are in reliance on Him. He is our strength. Go to Him with everything throughout your day. Spend time in conversation with Him. Pray for others. Without Him we are powerless to fight the battles. He's already won the war.

I hope this encourages you to put on the armor of God!

Dress Beautifully in the Armor of God
