Shades of Sand

Sand often gets a bad rap. It's messy, bland in color and sticks to everything. On the contrary it's also fun to play in, houses beautiful treasures and is a soft path to the sea.

While stark white may be crisp and bright I find off-white to be soft and warm. Shades of ivory and beige have a lower contrast for a beautiful palette that has a natural appearance.

These shades in a monochromatic style enhances these elements.

The feminine embroidery adds texture and dimension in a classic way while the puff sleeve, cropped hem and perforated eyelet add modern design.

These pleated wide leg pants are actually a light weight denim! I find them flattering in that they have a light structure and aren't see through like most white & linen pants are. They're also an off white which is better for all year styling and keeping clean!

Friday Favorites: Bright White Tops

TGIF! Gals this is the BEST Friday, two of my gal pals are in town for a visit #squeal. Typically, I travel to them or we travel together to a fun destination. I'm so jazzed to show them our home, where we make our memories, our city and most importantly just laugh until our bellies hurt.

If there's one garment that describes my style and/or one I wear the most, it would be a bright white top!

My Puff Sleeve Peplum Top

I have them in abundance. I love the clean, fresh and crispness they bring to not only my outfits but to my smile. The lightness really makes your skin, makeup and hair shine.  I believe they pair beautifully with the most casual of distressed jeans to fancy silk skirts or dresses. The blank canvas makes prints pop and colors more brilliant.

Here are some of my favorite bright white tops ...

Friday Favorites: Mini Skirts

TGIF! Gals, Summer's heat and humidity is here! Give me all the AC on full blast. But since I want to spend my Summer under the sun not just looking at it through the window, my wardrobe has to be functionally cool and still aesthetically cute.

I've shared that shorts aren't my favorite because neither are my legs. I find that dresses and skirts, even minis, give me more coverage and better suit my girlie style.

Until recently, you'd never ever see me in a hem line above my knees. Not because I didn't like them, but because of my insecurities. I'm overcoming them one day at a time.

Now, when I say mini, I mean mid thigh. Let's keep it classy shall we ladies. I don't care how thin, tall or young you are, if you wouldn't wear it in front of your Grandma, it's too darn short. Finger tip length is a good measurement.

Personally, I love an elastic waist tiered mini skirt as you can adjust the waist placement, it can hold a top tucked in and has sassy movement when you walk. It also flatters all body shapes and allows for a good breeze on a hot day.

Friday Favorites: Pinkalicious!

TGIF! Do you have a favorite color? For me, it's pink! If you know me in real life or have been following along here that's of no surprise.

Some of Vivian's favorite books are from the Pinkalicious series.  There's even a cartoon show on PBS she watches on Saturday mornings. Funny thing is, I love them just as much.  They're about a little girl that LOVES ALL things pink - same gal same! 💯

Pink is just a feel-good, fun, feminine color.  I've loved it my whole life and will be wearing it all the way to the end. Literally, I've picked out a pink dress to be buried in. Too much?

Here are some current pink favorites ...

Pink Collared Gingham Shirt - Shorts

Pink Shorts - Similar  & My fav tank

Friday Favorites: Peplum Tops

TGIF! Gals it's been a fun week for me. Lots of exercising & playing outside (lots of Easter egg hunts in our yard). I had my teeth cleaned (I absolutely LOVE going to the dentist so it's a noteworthy) AND I cleaned out my closet putting away my Winter pieces and bringing out my Summer ones. On Monday I'll share a post on my process.

My very first blog post in a dramatic peplum top circa 2014

Today I want to share all about peplum tops. Several years ago they were the "IT' design and for reasons I can't understand they vanished from the racks. The good news is someone in the higher ups of the fashion world discovered this mistake and is making efforts to return these beauties to our closets.

Archives May 2019

What makes a peplum top so pretty?

1. The seam whittles the waist ... do I really even need to give more?

2. The design creates curves and simultaneously camouflages the lower abdomen (if you've had a kid you know)

3. The ruffle hem is feminine.

4. Plays well with pants, skirts and shorts of all designs!

5. Flatters all body shapes and sizes.
