Column Skirt

I love a good column skirt! Here's why, the cut is straight from the hip which makes for a long silhouette. Whether you're petite or tall a long line on the body is flattering.
It's a nice break from aline or tiered long skirts. The lack of volume is sleek and polished.

This one also sits high on the waist (key for shape & making you look tall) and is full of color!! It's like a yellow bouquet.
You could pair with a neutral like a crisp white button up, or denim or a complimentary color like I did.

Grab a little rattan bag (mine is vintage) and your sunnies and strut out this summer in a column skirt!

Friday Favorites: Maxi Skirts

TGIF! When you look at your style and in your closet you'll probably notice a predominant piece, color or design that you gravitate towards. For me it's white tops & maxi skirts.  I have quite the collection of maxi skirts because they're versatile all year long.

I can style them with sweaters & boots in the winter, fun tops and sandals in the Summer, dressy with a blouse & heels or casual with a tank and sneakers.
There's also the benefit of coverage (I'm not keen on showcasing my legs) and I find that they elongate making me feel and look taller (hard to do when you're 5'2"!).

When I'm shopping for maxi skirts I like a higher waist to create a long look, a crisp cotton poplin fabric, prints with lots of colors to pair with and minimal volume.

Here are some pretty maxi skirts to wear this Summer ...

Friday Favorites: Springy Shirts

TGIF! Gals I'm arriving in Houston TX today to see one of my dearest of friends from our time in the military. I haven't laughed with her in person in over 7 years. Despite so many moves and time zones we have stayed true to our friendship, talking as much as we could with an abundance of grace when there was too many days between calls.
Truly, the bonds made with the ladies I met on that base will last my entire life!

The next greatest part of this trip is attending the rodeo together!! YEEHAW! I'm bursting with excitement!

Not only are the signs of Spring everywhere outside, you can also welcome the season by wearing its beautiful blooms & colors with floral & vibrant tops.

One Dress Fits ALL

That's right gals, this dress fits AND flatters all! Let me share why ....

1. Crisp Cotton Fabric - cool & breathable
2. Smocked Waist - accentuates and creates shape
3. V-Neck - elongates face
4. Puff Short Sleeve - slims arms and visual hourglass shape
5. Ankle Length - coverage & versatility for any shoe

Alone this dress is undeniably pretty but styling it with layers that show your personality make it beautiful on you!

Edgy - add a Moto jacket & buckle booties
Sporty - sweatshirt & sneakers
Work - blazer & block heel
Casual - waist tied chambray/denim jacket & sandals

This dress debuted several seasons ago and since has been offered in so many colors, prints and fabrics because it's just that good.  Even in a mini version (I just purchased it in this butterfly print).

Whether its on the playground, in the office or a night out this dress truly fits all!

This stack of bracelets are handmade here in Charlotte by my friend Taylor - she has so many lovely pieces!

Frilly

I've always been a girlie girl.  My love of pink, bows and frills hasn't diminished from my days as a little girl and thank goodness I have darling Vivian to share it with.

This top has everything but the kitchen sink when it comes to feminine details: tiny pastel florals, ruffles, puff sleeves, lace trim, embroidered scalloped hem and pearl buttons down the back. The design is modern with a shorter length and dramatic sleeve.  It clearly checks all the pretty boxes and as a bonus it's even practical in a super light weight fabric so you're not a puddle in this Summer heat.

I think tiered ruffle minis skirts are fun and sassy but not when their hem is so short you feel like you can't move. I shared this post on mini skirts that aren't too mini several weeks ago and this skirt is a perfect example.  An elastic waist is key to adjusting where it sits, holding your tops tucked in and highlighting your waist.

Get a little frilly with your next outfit ... I promise you'll feel pretty!

Spring Dreams

According to the groundhog last week, we are facing 6 more weeks of Winter. Blah! I'll remind myself of this when it's scorching hot in a couple of months.  I just wish we could have some snow to play in. Vivian has been learning about it and I'd love to experience it with her. Instead we are often trapped inside playing because it's just too cold to go outside, our favorite place to play!

So instead I'm having warm thoughts, sweet dreams of Spring and happily shopping sundresses!

Things I look for in a dress are fabric (crisp cotton poplin is my fav), cut (I prefer a-line and sleeveless) and versatility.  The ability to wear a dress across seasons with layering and across occasions with styling is #1. This dress is perfectly fitting!

In a lightweight cotton  it's cool and comfortable but easily layers with a jacket, sweater, boots or booties when you need to be warm. The flutter sleeves flatter the figure and arms by creating balance to the tiered volume. They're also very feminine and pretty!

As for occasions, you're all set for anywhere you go ... or nowhere but your backyard #overit! You can get gussied up with a heel and jewelry or casually cute with a sandal or sneaker.

Here's how I'm styling it now with this Moto jacket & booties but you bet I'll be swapping them out for these sandals and these heels asap.

The Housedress

It can seem frivolous to get dressed while being at home.  I assure you it is not. While the world has gone casual, I prefer to hold on to classic feminine dressing. I've never held back on my feelings that leggings are not pants and that covering your body in spandex outside of a sweat session isn't the most flattering.  Honestly, I find it binding not to mention it doesn't breath - I live in the South, airflow is essential!

I present to you the option of a housedress. This Southern Living Article says it perfectly! A housedress isn't like your dresses for the office or church.  Preferably, in a light weight cotton for breathability, a print for prettiness and hiding stains, an a-line shape for comfort and a knee -midi length for movement make it a fit for doing ALL the things inside your home.  From the dishes, to laundry, to playing on the floor and working on the computer you're not limited in your tasks.
And I dare say you'll find confidence, feel pretty and present yourself beautifully when you step out to check the mail or water your plants.

A roomy dress is a one piece, easy breezy, lovely ensemble perfectly fitting for home and I promise a smile maker when you pass by a mirror!
