Friday Favorites: Summer Glow Makeup

Summer is bright and fun but it's also hot and sweaty! Easy peasy with a little glow is the way to go when it comes to your makeup. A light & natural look with a hint of luster gives you that sun kissed golden hue without the actual harmful sun rays (wrinkles and disease are unbecoming so sunscreen Every. Single. Day!)

Here's what I've been wearing ...

this is light weight with a hint of luster

I use these shades to contour, highlight and add color to my cheeks.
I also use it on my eyes.
The colors are soft and give just the right amount of subtle glow for a youthful just back from the beach appearance.

Your brows frame your face and since my coloring is very fair I have to add a little color to darken and thicken them. Regardless of your complexion defined eyebrows can add contrast & structure to your face.

This lasts ALL day and isn't drying.
I'm wearing color Bright Raspberry

I love these. They are shiny, tingly and make your lips look fuller.

I'm obsessed with this spray.  It really holds your make up together.
Think of it like hairspray for your face. I don't' use it every day but definitely on occasions when I'm out and about.

This Summer keep it easy peasy, lemonsqueezy! Wear a glowing smile, sit for a spell with the ones you love (or alone under the shade) and sip some sweet refreshing lemonade :)

New Make Up

Over the past few months I've added some new products to my makeup drawer. Some of them I picked up  just shopping, some from my sister and some from someone on IG promoting.

Sidenote: I get encouraged and questioned all the time about why I don't take this blog & my IG account bigger and be a real 'influencer'. First, I don't have a clue how! Send me help! And, I do not want to compromise my honest content to become a commercial (no offense!). But I would love explore growth without the 'sales pitch'. Again, send me help!

Make up is important to me. I'm not a natural beauty kind of gal. It makes me feel confident, pretty and put together to enhance and add color to my face.

Even Vivian loves to primp! She got this play makeup set for Christmas and absolutely loves it.

Here's what I've added and love ...

Primer - A must have so that your products perform the way they should. I chose this one for it's illuminating properties.  In the Winter skin can be dry and dull.  A slight glow (NOT shimmer) is youthful and appears healthy & hydrated.  This product is light and truly holds my makeup together.

Bronzer & Highlighter Duo - This is a mini size, which to be honest isn't mini at all.  I often purchase mini sizes to try out a product without the investment. The bronzer isn't too dark or orange and a soft match for my fair complexion. It's buildable to achieve your level of contour.  Highlighter is one of my favorite products.  I love the glow it gives.

Setting Powder - This is a loose powder so a little extra care is required so that you don't make a dusty mess. I feel that this is a bit better at controlling shine and it doesn't add any tint than this one that I also use.

Blush - I am an over-blusher.  I believe it's because I'm so fair that I like a contrasting colorful cheek.  I'm blessed to have a gal pal that was honest and let me know I was borderline clown looking with my intense rosy cheeks so I've backed off (thanks BR!). This blush in color Luminous Flush is subtle and light reflecting.

Mascara - I actually threw away my eyelash curlers! This mascara lengthens and curls. No more of my lashes being plucked out by that contraption ever again!

Setting Spray - This is magic! It's like hairspray for your face. It's light and not at all sticky. But my goodness it really holds your makeup in place.  With taking a mask on and off and snuggling all over my darling I don't want my makeup rubbing off.

Lipstick - I have to giggle a little that I'm still painting my little lips despite being hidden under a mask. Force of habit! I have such tiny pale lips that I insist on coloring them boldly. I like traditional lipsticks for the saturated color. Lipglosses can be sticky and don't last very long so I stick with just layering them on top. Stains can be very dry so when I find a long wearing lipstick thats soft and hydrating I get very excited. This one has a slight luster to it and very smooth. I chose color 452 Emilienne.

Here are the other products I use.  You can read more about makeup I use on This Post This Post & This Post.

L is for Leopard

L is for leopard.  Gals, I read so many ABC books to baby Vivian Louise I practically recite them in my sleep.  I have 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' & 'Brown Bear' memorized.

This outfit, like an ABC book, is very simplistic; classic.  Outfits don't have to be outrageous or unexpected to be impactful.

I gravitated to this leopard blouse because of the necktie. I also liked the coloring and ikat style print.
I ended up getting a petite because the sleeves fit better.

Paired with high waisted black pants and cap toe pumps this look will never go out of style.
I added some major shine with these gold disc earrings.  They were a Black Friday gift to myself :)

Pair this blouse with jeans and a pair of flats or boots and it will transition you perfectly from the weekday to weekend.

Dot Dot Dot

Hey gals, so I feel like the blog has seriously been a "..." situation.  Like who knows when she'll post again ... sigh I try but if it makes you feel any better I truly am living my best life over here!

I spend my days with baby girl, friends, family basically enjoying all the best life has to offer.  And while there are moments where I miss the corporate hustle this maternity leave break beats any accomplishment made in the office. #TRUTH

I do have good intentions to post, Vivian Louise is sleeping through the night every night and I'm starting to get a routine and increase productivity but I will stop it all and soak up the snuggles because babies don't keep!

So for this outfit I mixed a classic polka dot blouse with the come back of beige.  I typically don't go for polka dots but I love this version because the base is white (favorite) and the dots are huge making a bolder statement. It's also sleeveless, my go-to, with ruffles for extra femininity and button front so nursing friendly (I can't believe that's my first thoughts when looking at clothes these days).

Remember back in the day when khaki was the 'IT' neutral? We all had khaki pants, just admit it.  Well, while I don't believe in bringing those back (go for a pair of chinos in olive, blue or blush) this beige skirt is far from boring.  It's a flattering fit, comfortable, with pockets and crazy affordable.

Pair it with tees and saturated colors and its a piece you can wear from work to weekend.

Spring Must Have: Stripes

Spring must have: Stripes.

Ok, let's be honest stripes are for all seasons but something about the bright white and crisp lines screams warm weather.  This dress is a classic and what I like to call a 'Forever Piece'.  Meaning, you will have it in your closet for years of wear making it a wise investment.

The palette is neutral giving this dress endless styling options.  Like I mentioned in yesterday's post, I prefer to swap out self fabric sash/belts with one of my own for added texture, interest and style.  You could also add color to this dress with a blazer, belt, shoes, handbag or jewelry.  I opted to keep the look full of contrast allowing the stripes themselves to be the focal point rather than a pop of color.

I did add some shine with more classics in a pair of gold hoops and cuff bracelet.

Stripes are a staple when it comes to adding print to your wardrobe.

Friday 5: Date Night

This TGIF came a whole lot faster – can I get an Amen for short work weeks?!!!

Memorial Day weekend was a blast!  Mr and I were together as we visited Beaufort and my sweet gal pal’s shop Beaufort Linen Co. (they’re both a favorite!), followed by two days on Wrightsville Beach with 2 of my gal pals from college.  It was straight up good company and lots of laughs – Can we rewind?!

This weekend is going to be equally as fun.  I’ve got Mr here in the QC and plans with our friends. Oh and it’s the last weekend before I run a half marathon with two of my gals – Not sure if I’ve shared with you how hard we’ve been training over the past couple of months, let’s just say we’ve sweat a lot!!!

One of the best parts about weekends are the date nights.  Mr and I have been long distance for 8 ½ of the 10 years we’ve been together so it hasn’t been easy to make them happen (especially during his most recent deployment in the Middle East) but it makes them all the more special when we do get to escape the world  and just be with each other.

Almost all of our date nights involve dressing up.  We both Love it!! It makes me feel special and it’s just too sad to leave those fancier pieces abandoned in your closet.
Don’t get me wrong I love a good pizza and movie night in with lots of popcorn snuggled on the couch, but something about stepping out on the town all gussied up creates more sparks!

We have a date night planned for Saturday night, and after my 11 mile run that morning I’ve decided I’m treating myself with bubbles and definitely dessert!!!

So for my Friday 5 this week, it’s all about the date night …

The Dress
First you need a pretty dress, one that makes you feel hot.  If you feel it you look it! I’m obsessed with this dark teal dress.  The spaghetti straps show just enough skin, and the luster and drape of the fabric make it elegant. And having snazzy dresses on hand is important not just for date nights but for weddings, fundraisers, and various other soirees or special occasions throughout the year.  It should be classy and skim the body so that you can enjoy your meal and spirits and perhaps even a little dancing without being constrained.

The Heels
You also need a pair of heels.  No work pumps – you strut in those all week. I’m talking a fun pair of strappy heels.  Do not wear something that rubs, pinches or hurts in any way – that just makes for a unpleasant evening.  I scored this studded pair at the Nordstom Half Yearly Sale this week – you must shop this sale! It’s one of my favorites for bringing home fabulous pieces.  Note: I will be wearing them Saturday night.

Jewelry
Make your accessories a statement.  Shine and sparkle are the way to go, but focus on one piece – too much and you look gaudy!  For my baubles, I’ll either opt for chandelier earrings or a bold bracelet and I always wear a big cocktail ring! It’s a bit ridiculous on my micro mini hands but they go perfectly with a tall glass of champagne!

The Bag
Go small with a clutch or baguette.  This shoulder/cross-body bag has been on my wish list for a couple of years – I’m keeping the faith it will happen sooner rather than later J

Perfume
It’s sooo important!  I’ve been wearing this classic scent since high school – I refuse to do the math on how many years that it.  I prefer stronger scents so definitely the Eau de Parfum.  I can’t speak for all men but I know Mr loves my perfume.
