leopard

You've heard it for years, leopard is a neutral. It's still true and in my opinion, it always will be. To me, because animal prints are natural, they're timeless. I'm seeing leopard print everywhere this season, in all price points and styles.

Here are some lovely leopard pieces ...

I tried this on in store & brought it home - on sale and super soft texture!

Friday Favorites: Filthy Animals

TGIF and 1 week til Christmas!!! I'm so holly jolly over here to celebrate Jesus's birthday, the blessings this year has brought (yes I know it's be challenging but what year isn't?) and the magic with our darling Vivian Louise!

Side note: for over a month we've been renovating several rooms in our home and it's finally coming to completion! Just a few last finishing touches. Blog posts on everything coming at ya in the new year!

For my last 'Friday Favorites' post of 2020 I thought I'd go out fierce since that's been an adjective I'd use to describe a lot of things about 2020.

Here are some fierce animal prints to dress beautifully in ...

Friday Favorites: Bump Up The Basics

TGIF! It still hasn't sunk in yet that it's 2020 (and that my baby is 2!).  But gals, the world keeps on turning and here we are in a brand new year and decade.

My favorite ways to make my typical outfits, which are white or solid colored tops and jeans look interesting and new is to add color and print with my shoes and handbag.

Note: I am VERY proud of myself for adding a whole lot more print in my wardrobe last year ... but still NO black and heavens no grey.

One concept that I really want to emphasize to you is that it's far more fun to add color to color than color to neutrals.  What I mean is, your ensemble doesn't have to be white, black or blue jeans to add a bright color or print.

Here are some ways I add color and print to a solid outfit .....

L is for Leopard

L is for leopard.  Gals, I read so many ABC books to baby Vivian Louise I practically recite them in my sleep.  I have 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' & 'Brown Bear' memorized.

This outfit, like an ABC book, is very simplistic; classic.  Outfits don't have to be outrageous or unexpected to be impactful.

I gravitated to this leopard blouse because of the necktie. I also liked the coloring and ikat style print.
I ended up getting a petite because the sleeves fit better.

Paired with high waisted black pants and cap toe pumps this look will never go out of style.
I added some major shine with these gold disc earrings.  They were a Black Friday gift to myself :)

Pair this blouse with jeans and a pair of flats or boots and it will transition you perfectly from the weekday to weekend.

Velvet & Bows

Velvet is probably one of my favorite fabrics.  Even in my home I've incorporated it into my decor with pillows and chair upholstery.  It's a heavier textile but sooooo soft and it has a subtle luster in the light.  For the holidays I'd rather wear velvet over sparkles!

It's an understated glamor and doesn't limit you just to the holidays but for all season long.

I was drawn to this top for all of its details.  The velvet has an added shimmer to it, and in a leopard print design. The neck & shoulders have shear ruffles and I could picture myself wearing it dressed up or down with a pair of jeans. I lightened the look with ivory trousers.

The best part .... these velvet bow shoes!!!! I found them a couple months ago and fell in love.  They look so high fashion.  The price tag was also way too high for a special occasion shoe. But come Black Friday they were over half off so I pulled the trigger #noregrets

They have a low heel and a quilted satin lining for comfort.  I couldn't wait to wear them to church this past season.
They're basically going to dictate every outfit I wear this month :)

Also, mini handbags make an outfit not-so-everyday.

Opposites Attract

Lavender, lace and leopard - Say that 3 times fast!  These aren't your average color, texture and pattern pairings BUT I think they're fabulous.  Combining contrasting elements creates a look that's interesting and stylish.

The soft pastel color lavender with the rich bold browns alongside the feminine texture of the lace with the fierceness of the animal print is a combination of opposites that is striking.
It's unexpected yet very pretty.

Personally, I love pastels in the cooler months.  There's so much darkness and heavy textures it's nice to see fresh colors. And you can wear them all year long.  You can't say the same for a burgundy velvet top (not that I'm opposed to wearing one).

Mix up your colors and textures gals and give your pieces new style!

PS I'm giddy about ALL the lavender on the racks! It's baby girl's color and I've adopted it for myself too :) The matching skirt to this top may be on its way to my closet!
