Fall Floral Skirts

To be honest, Fall isn't my favorite season. (I'm a spring girl through and through!) Incorporating florals is a way to add vibrancy to the season, just swap the pastels for darker, richer hues.

I find maxi skirts a pretty alternative to jeans. They provide coverage and with a boot & sweater you achieve a look that's feminine and cozy.

Style Tip: don't be afraid to mix prints. The key is to keep one super small and understated. Also, the more color the better!

Here are some pretty Fall floral skirts ...

Purple Reign

When you take a look in my closet you'll see a whole lot of white next to a whole lot of color. And of those colors you'll see pink the most right next to purple. Color, whether in decorating our homes or our outfits, brings joy to yourself and shows others an insight to your personality.

I believe it's important to style with things you love to create a presentation that's true to you.

I'm not a gal that finds something I like and buys it in multiples BUT this dress AND this skirt in a beautiful purple patterned silk spoke to me. I was luck to find them on a sample sale and while the fabric is the same I plan to style them differently.

For this dress adding a heel and jewelry is perfect for a dressy look.
For something a bit more casual, layer a fur vest and opt for a knee high boot or bootie.

For this skirt there are quite a bit more styling options ...

I love a crisp white shirt, but denim, a cozy sweater and even a sweatshirt are great options.
As for accessories, belts are my #1 but I find a leather jacket, vest and boots are chic too.

Tip: Next time you're shopping filter by a color that makes you happy!

Long & Floral

This maxi skirt fabric is so pretty I would literally use it to decorate with in drapes, upholstery and bedding. Prints are key in creating a wardrobe you love.  They really showcase your style.

I find printed maxi skirts to be one of the most pretty, comfortable and flattering pieces in my wardrobe. Oh and very versatile!!! They provide coverage, in a high waist design create a very elongating silhouette and can be styled for summer and winter (think small tops & sandals and later sweaters and boots)

With so many colors you can get creative beyond neutrals such as white & denim and compliment with a corresponding shade. I chose peach but the dark green, light blue and yellow are all colors I plan to pair with this skirt.

Note: The colors do NOT have to match. A shade darker or lighter of a color makes for a lovely contrast. For example, rather than light blue a dark blue - rather than light green a dark green.

Another Note: Maxi skirts do NOT have to be dressy. A sweater shirt, graphic tee and sneakers are all chic and modern. This casual styling option will have you fitting for day time in a comfortable and polished way.

This skirt is from one of my top favorite boutiques I shop online.
This is from the owner's personal line she recently launched & I'm LOVING all the pieces and patterns!!!
When you find unique items that spark joy and speak to your style they become a special piece in your closet that you are happy to wear and style and hopeful keep for years.

Walking on Sunshine

The sun has been shining bright this week and I'm grateful for it with my whole heart! We've created so many fun memories with each other, our friends and an extra magical day at my Mamma's yesterday with all day outdoor fun.

Sunshine is magical in itself. The warm bright rays have a way of keeping my attitude and outlook just as bright. If you can step into the sun I promise it will cover you in cheerful blessings!

You can also wear cheer!
This floral yellow skirt is breezy and such an easy piece to wear. Dressed it up on vacation or with a cotton tee and sandals for play it will compliment your smile where ever you are.

I paired with with a contrasting stripe pattern in soft blue. The cropped length and strong shoulders enhance the shape & proportions. The structured top really balances the soft feminine skirt.

Note: These wedges are 10 years old!
Having quality pieces that you love
are essential for building a lasting wardrobe.

A backyard flower bouquet is by far the brightest part of my days!

Now & Later

Long skirts have gained a ton of real estate space in may closet over the past few years. I get so much more femininity, color, print and comfort over a pair of jeans but still have the same coverage.

Perk: With a long skirt you still don't have to shave or use tanning lotion (a must for my fair self!)

Here's how I style them across the seasons ...

I chose a dark burgundy color (black, olive and brown would be lovely too)
A leather or denim jacket would add a warm layer.

For Cooler Days:
Darker colors
Sweaters
Vests/Jackets
Boots

Swap the dark color out for a lighter shade top and add sandals or sneakers

For Warmer Days:
Light colors
Tees/Tanks (even a crop top for vacation!)
Cotton
Sandals
Sneakers

I truly believe a long skirt with colors & prints that feel pretty to you will be a great investment in your wardrobe as a piece that transitions across seasons and occasions.

Perk: I also believe they make you look taller when keeping the waist high and top tucked in/cropped.

Early Fall

You know what I think? I think that a maxi skirt with booties & a blouse is a very pretty way to dress for when it's almost Fall.

It's still so warm outside so a light weight blouse is comfortable and fits nicely with a layered jacket for cooler times. Booties are the shoe of the season! They pair with everything, they're comfortable and in a pointed toe very elongating on the leg.

I believe maxi skirts with a print in a rich color palette are so stylish as they allow for lots of pairing options. Denim tops for now and sweaters for later are great options.

Tip: Neutral tops are great to soften a skirt with lots of color but don't be afraid to choose a top with a complimentary color found in the print.

Nautical

You don't have to be at sea or on a ship to rock a nautical look. You need navy, white, light fabrics, rattan accessories, brass buttons, stripes and maybe even some red! You could get really specific and have a piece with printed sea accessories (I'm thinking a scarf).  These are all sharp coastal elements.

I'm partial being married to a prior sailor (Ryan was a US Navy medical officer) but there's something about the coastal look that makes you want to escape to somewhere new and fun.  Like you should be on a vacation escape to New England or better yet Italy ... I'm going to have to settle for North & South Carolina beaches :)

For this outfit I paired a classic navy striped collared dress shirt (I've had for many many years!) and knotted it at the waist for a causal look. A crisp white maxi skirt and rattan accessories tie in the Summer style and add texture.

Light & Lemony

Cotton is the king of fabrics for me. It's natural, breathable, comfortable and just feels so good! Not to mention down here in the south, key for surviving the heat.

I have more crisp white cotton tops than I should admit, but I just love them so so much! They create a bright fresh look with whatever you pair them with. This skirt, also in a crisp cotton poplin fabric and a light lemony botanical print is easy breezy.  The earthy colors and botanical print are interesting but in a traditional way.
This print spoke to me and I encourage you to look for prints that do the same.
When you love a piece of clothing you'll wear it with confidence and have fun styling it! I believe in enjoying your clothes.

Fun Fact: Lemon flavored and printed anything is my favorite!

I paired them with these on trend clogs (they give me a whole new view with the height!) and a statement necklace for added shine, texture and color.  It really breaks up the solid white blouse. I'm really working to wear more of my jewelry this year.

This Spring/Summer keep cool & beautiful in crisp cotton.

Friday Favorites: Maxi Skirts

Maxi skirts have climbed so high up on my wardrobe ladder they're almost up there with jeans. What got these skirts promoted to such a powerful place is their beauty, comfort and style versatility.

From solids to florals, pastels to jewel tones, tiers and ruffles, a maxi skirt exudes so much femininely.  In a long length there's ample coverage (no need to shave your legs) and you can move with easy especially with a pair of sneakers. And as for styling options ... the sky is the limit.

Here are some of my favorite pairings:

Causal: Tank, Knotted graphic tee or cropped sweatshirt
Dressy: Embellished Blouse, crisp button up or even blazer
In between: Denim jacket or sweater
Resort: Over swimsuit or crop top

And then there's shoes: sneakers, sandals, block heels and boots

A maxi skirt can transition across seasons and occasions.
