Elevated Basics

One of my favorite looks is a crisp white shirt with a pair of jeans. It's timeless, chic and a perfect balance of polished and chic.

Here area some ways to elevate a simple button up & jeans:

- Pop the collar
- Leave the top 3 buttons open
- Add a statement necklace
- Tuck the front and back of the shirt leaving the sides loose
- Roll the sleeves to the elbow leaving the cuff out
- Top the jeans with a belt
- Opt for jeans that have a modern cut/detail (ex: barrel, two toned, cuffed)
- Step into a pair of shoes with pointed toe

Party Trick

This time of year party pieces with sparkles, shine and rich colors hit the racks. As beautiful as they are they tend to be a one-time wear.

Style Tip: Layer a crisp white shirt with an ornate top for a look that increases in versatility for day and for less formal occasions.

Here are some options ...

Friday Favorites: Crisp White Shirts

TGIF! I'm currently sitting on Kiawah Island! with Ryan! for 5 days!
I am happy :)

I have an addiction to crisp white skirts. As did my Grandma and my Mamma. I've share so many with you and I unapologetically will continue to do so as to me they make a classic sharp wardrobe.

Here are some very fresh crisp white shirts ...

I ordered this one!

Bright Skirt Big Beauty

A skirt that's brighter than the sun! That's what I'm wearing. Neon isn't just for bars and young children. Neon can be modern and chic when design and styled in a sophisticated way.

This skirt is in a structured satin wrap style which is classic but it's in a shorter length (well on most gals but I'm on the petite side). Personally I prefer my hem lines modest.

I paired this neon yellow skirt with a classic crisp white shirt. It balances the luster & vibrancy of the skirt. And since the shirt & shoes is neutral I added an unexpected color with a lavender statement earrings that also adds texture.

Tip: A fun printed scarf, necklace and/or handbag are other ways to add print & texture.

The key to wearing bold colors = confidence!
Loving the vibrancy and stying will allow you to walk out with your head held high.

Fashionable Habits

Habits. We all have them, good and bad. Some of mine I'm pretty proud of because well, they took effort and continual self discipline to maintain. Some it seems I'll never kick to the curb, like going all day with minimal water intake (my sister says no one can save me lol).

Hugging is a strong habit I embrace

I find that even in the way we dress we have habits. We have affinities for what we think is pretty, looks good on us and is comfortable/fits our lifestyle. I believe that these preferences establish our style and present our personalities.

Here are some of my fashionable habits ...

Pink is my Signature Color

I just love pink. Bright bubble gum cheerful pink. It's girlie just like me and I can't get enough.

Crisp White

I have quite the collection of crisp white shirts and I see myself continuing to foster it forever.
I love the classic, bright and fresh feeling they give me and my outfits.

Jeans

I have more pairs of jeans than I need and I find that I get into a pattern of wearing a few pairs on repeat and then move on and do it with another few pairs. I wear jeans nearly every single day! I don't wear lounge clothes so jeans are what I chill and go out in.
My favorites are high waisted straight cut.
I even enjoy denim tops, jackets & skirts.

Tuck It

I'm a tucker. And not just a front tuck or some half shove of a shirt tuck but a full on 360 tuck. #oldschool I find it looks polished, creates a feminine silhouette and elongates the look of my legs (I need all the help).

Belt It

Belts are by far my favorite accessory! And I especially like big statement belts. Some of my favorites are vintage. I like the structure, shine and texture they give an outfit. They literally cinch it all together.

I encourage you to make a habit out of wearing what you find pretty and makes you feel good!

Light & Lemony

Cotton is the king of fabrics for me. It's natural, breathable, comfortable and just feels so good! Not to mention down here in the south, key for surviving the heat.

I have more crisp white cotton tops than I should admit, but I just love them so so much! They create a bright fresh look with whatever you pair them with. This skirt, also in a crisp cotton poplin fabric and a light lemony botanical print is easy breezy.  The earthy colors and botanical print are interesting but in a traditional way.
This print spoke to me and I encourage you to look for prints that do the same.
When you love a piece of clothing you'll wear it with confidence and have fun styling it! I believe in enjoying your clothes.

Fun Fact: Lemon flavored and printed anything is my favorite!

I paired them with these on trend clogs (they give me a whole new view with the height!) and a statement necklace for added shine, texture and color.  It really breaks up the solid white blouse. I'm really working to wear more of my jewelry this year.

This Spring/Summer keep cool & beautiful in crisp cotton.

Ruffles On Ruffles

Gals, I love ruffles. The gathered edges create such a feminine detail. They can be as big or small as you like and in the case of this outfit I chose both! More is more.

The large sleeves on this blouse draw attention upwards towards my face and add volume to my shoulders both of which flatter by elongating my shape and slimming the waist.
The fabric is crisp so the shape of the design holds!

These shorts are super comfortable with an elastic waist to hold your tops in, pleated leg for room and a tulip hem that also gives room and creates a long leg line as opposed to a straight hem that cuts the leg straight across.
My legs are on the fuller side so these details are key for a good fit.

PS my hair will be taking a more natural and pinned back position as the humidity has arrived here in the South and it's fierce!

Old School Cool

It feels like we've gone back in time living that 1950's housewife life cooking, cleaning and raising children since we've been in quarantine.  Eh maybe not exactly because thank goodness we have modern advancements to get us through. As decades have past women, wives, mammas do much much more! Our world keeps turning and growing but I'm ok bringing back some fashion elements from the past.

These plaid shorts have such a retro vibe in the colors and high waisted roomy design. Gals, they are so comfortable and modest.  I've never been one for short shorts, personally I just don't find them flattering or classy.  I also don't like shorts too long since I'm petite and find that 4" is the perfect length for coverage and still making my legs appear as long as possible.

I paired these with a crisp white shirt to play on the vintage look. A denim top, basic tee or tank in any complimentary color would be just as nice.

I encourage you to try paper bag style shorts.  The higher waist and loose leg give you a feminine silhouette and ability to move at ease. I plan to swap out the fabric tie sash with my own assortment of belts.

I'm embracing a touch of old school cool!

Friday Favorites: Crisp White Shirt

TGIF! What a fun week it has been. Despite an early start with lots of rain, we've had a few days with uncharacteristically warm temperatures for January. I've taken full advantage with running and playing outside with Vivian.

My very first outfit post circa January 2014
I had to start with the foundation piece of my wardrobe
sorry for the blurry photo

It's quite fitting that I kick off this new year with what I feel is the most essential garment every gal should have in their closet; the crisp white shirt! If I could wear just one piece in my closet every day forever, this would be it! It's my favorite and go-to for feeling pretty and polished.
Truth: I have them in great abundance!

circa 2016

A few rules I have are, to exercise caution when pairing with a black trousers.  You could easily create the look of a waiter if not styled sufficiently.  You should never wear one that's stained and you should always, always have the wrinkles ironed out. A little starch never hurt either.

A white shirt is clean, crisp, and classic,  Wearing white illuminates you with a fresh look. It pairs beautifully with everything because its light and bright. There's a level of sharp sophistication that comes with wearing white - especially if you pop the collar and add some shiny gold.
It truly is the most versatile article of clothing.
I often wear white on white and basically glow in my own outfit happiness :)

Wearing white can be intimidating for two reasons. One, because gals tend to think it makes them look bigger.  In the right garments made of quality fabric and in a flattering cut this is NOT the case. Two, because they soil easily. I recommend eating carefully, avoiding messy foods. You can also carry around a stain pen (My Mamma says to always use cold water first) and have Shout in your laundry room.

Since this is my MOST FAVORITE item of clothing I'm sharing 20 that I feel would dress you beautifully .....

This is my all time favorite dress shirt for the office.  It travels beautifully and is just so sharp. I have them in all colors and in stripes.  For white I have a few since they do tarnish faster.
