Harvest Plaid

There are patterns and textures that represent seasons and for Fall, I think of plaid. Plaids with warm, rich, earthy tones. Plaids that are full of colors mimicking the changing of the leaves and in designs that keep you warm.

Note: Next month will be all about the 'Christmas' plaids - tartan, black watch, lots of red (while festive, these are not my favorite to wear as they're just too specific to the holiday time)

PLAID CULOTTES
Think of these super wide leg pants as a skirt but with the ease of a pant.

Style Tip: Pair plaids with colors found in the pattern to really make it pop. OR stick with neutrals OR denim (you can never go wrong with denim!)

Here are some warm plaids that are lovely for the season ...

Pearls & Plaid

It's Christmas Week!!! Vivian is out of school and I'm enjoying spending these days together just us two preparing for the festivities.  I'm done shopping but have so, so much wrapping to do.

For me, dressing for Christmas activities is fun. I like to stay traditional and timeless with my holiday style.

Pearls and plaid are two timeless classics that I believe pair beautifully. While a single strand of pearls are the most formal you can embrace a more modern look with pearl jewelry that incorporates chains and various colors.

When it comes to plaid prints, they can often masculine but in pinks and bright colors it can take on a cheerful look.

Amidst all the hustle and bustle of the holiday I encourage you to take a bit of time to look as joyful as the season feels!

Check All The Pretty Boxes

When picking pieces to buy/wear they should check the pretty box. Now, pretty is unique for everyone but we should all feel good and have admiration for what we dress ourselves in.

For me, pink always checks the pretty box. Add a bow, a unique sleeve and detailing like this elongated button cuffs and I'm going to adore it.

Note: I prefer checks over plaid for the fall/winter season, It's not as busy and usually a simple color palette.

Friday Favorites: Tartan Season

TGI-Christmas time! The Christmas magic is here and sprinkled throughout our home.  We've decorated nearly every room with lights, greenery and lots of red velvet. It is true, seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child is pure joy!

Red & green may be the colors of the season, but plaid is the print! Funny enough, plaid is actually one of my least favorite prints. I believe it's because it's most often masculine, dark and seasonal. But when I do find the pattern in a a unique blend of light colors with feminine embellishments I quite fancy it.

This blouse is a perfect example of a pretty plaid. The mix of scale, lighter blues, modern shoulder and lace eyelet details gives this a classic and girlie look.

Here are some festive tartans to celebrate the season in ...

Friday Favorites: 20 Skirts

TGIF!  I hope you gals have had a fun week.  I know I surely have.  I spent Sunday and Monday in Raleigh with my 2 best gals from college for a quick little getaway.  We saw Carrie Underwood in concert Monday night and Oh. My, Goodness! She is absolutely amazing!! We even got upgraded to floor seats (thanks to Meghan's good looks and flirting abilities).  It was such a nice time away from the 'work' at home.  But I missed my sweet Vivian Louise something fierce! And of course she missed me right back and practically wouldn't let me go once I picked her up from school Tuesday.  I loved every squeeze :)

Me, my girl and her cracker :)

I feel like skirts have much bigger share on the fashion scene this year.  And in longer lengths.

My favorite thing about skirts right now is that you can pair them with tees and sneakers, maybe even add a denim jacket for casual occasions.
Or, a chunky sweater and booties for a casual/dressy occasion.
Or a pretty blouse and heels for an all the way dressy occasion.

Here are some of my favorite skirts ... 20 to be exact!

I have it in navy and love it!

I share this one with you on this post!
While I've been wearing it with sandals the past few months I'm ready to put boots with it!

I have this one (yes I fall victim to the 'come out with extras' on a target run)
It has pockets and slightly a-line so you can move and it flatters!

I saw this one in a local boutique yesterday and I'm still thinking about it!
I wanted to try it on but time was ticking and I couldn't be late to pick up Vivian from school.
Not only are the tiers of tiny flowers pretty, but it's an all year round skirt so you could wear and style it endless ways! Just wishing it was a bit lower in price :)

In-Between

Gals, it's officially Fall AND it's starting to actually feel like it! Ok it's still warm but I'm not in danger of heat stroke when I go for a run. While we are all itching for sweater weather I don't foresee it happening for another several weeks, at least for us here in the South.  But I'm ready for a change in my wardrobe. So, here we are, a way to transition from Summer to Fall for the in between weather.

The top says warmer weather, (well actually all year because you can layer over) the plaid pants say cooler temps and the booties say it all in a Summer shade but Fall/Winter design.

So here you have it, a look that bridges the seasonal gap.

This top I've had for several years, it's a favorite I wear all year long. And it's subtle stripes make its perfect pairing even with this plaid - think of it as lines on top of lines. Also, the blue in the top brings out the bits of blue in the plaid.

These pants in the paper bag waist, wide leg design are all the rage and I'm cool with it because they're super comfortable and make your waist look super small.

Now, the booties.  I'm normally a rule follower but as y'all know I'm obsessed with white so to limit my wear of the bright clean neutral to the days between Memorial Day & Labor Day feels like a punishment. So as I'm writing this I'm wearing white jeans and thinking of when I can strut these new booties out. They are the softest leather and the white actually has a hint of cream to it so perfectly acceptable.  Shoot I'll just call them winter white and all is good.
The kitten heel is just right for a dressier shoe without all the discomfort.

Now if you wanted to make this look more casual - swap the button front with a comfy t-shirt or sweater. And swap the booties for a ballet flat.

Work with what you have gals!
