Pearls & Plaid

It's Christmas Week!!! Vivian is out of school and I'm enjoying spending these days together just us two preparing for the festivities.  I'm done shopping but have so, so much wrapping to do.

For me, dressing for Christmas activities is fun. I like to stay traditional and timeless with my holiday style.

Pearls and plaid are two timeless classics that I believe pair beautifully. While a single strand of pearls are the most formal you can embrace a more modern look with pearl jewelry that incorporates chains and various colors.

When it comes to plaid prints, they can often masculine but in pinks and bright colors it can take on a cheerful look.

Amidst all the hustle and bustle of the holiday I encourage you to take a bit of time to look as joyful as the season feels!

Friday Favorites: Modern Pearl Jewelry

TGIF! Pearls have always been my top favorite for jewelry. They're just so beautiful and feminine. Diamonds may be a girl's best friend but classy girls wear pearls.

My Mamma and Mother in Law have gifted me many pearl pieces that I cherish.

A classic strand of pearls are just that, classic. They are heirloom pieces to be cherished and most often kept in the jewelry box only to come out for special occasions. Now, when it comes to every day pearl jewelry, modern designs are equally as beautiful and stylish. I'll always favor the classics but also want to keep my style current with a contemporary mix.

Here are some fashionable pretty pearl pieces ....

on sale for $24.50

I love this for the price (under $30) and layering with modern gold necklaces

makes for a thoughtful gift

Classy Girls Wear Pearls

TGIF!  Gals, it's been a fun week. Primarily because Vivian Louise and I were able to play and exercise outside some. Sadly, today the rain is back UGH! I'm trying to keep my spirits up but it's hard when under the sun is your happy place.

Today I'm sharing so many pretty things. What makes these things so pretty are that they are made with pearls.  Not 'real' pearls but regardless pretty.  Pearls, like a precious gem are forever a beautiful accessory.
Pearls are fragile and should be worn carefully. But these accessories being imitated bring the same look but in a realistic manner.

I ordered this one and have ants in my pants to wear it to church Sunday.
I have a date night with Mr Saturday night and if it isn't raining (not holding my breath) I may carry it.

This one is a splurge but beautiful. It's also very bold.

This one is more simple and affordable.

I like the embellishment and think it adds flair.

I really want these but they almost remind me of house slippers from the 80's.
They're on epic sale so I'm thinking about them.

These are definitely a statement pair but super cute. Luckily they're on sale.

This is a classic and more of a modern statement than your Grandma's single strand.

I love a hoop earring!

Pearls aren't just for church, funerals or traditional occasions like a wedding. Pair them with modern pieces and you've got a feminine and timeless look.

Friday 5: Earrings that Shine

TGIF! Gals, the weather here in Charlotte has been A M A Z I N G !!!!! Temperatures in the 70's and lots of sunshine! PRAISE!

Baby girl and I have been outside everyday (my legs are feeling it from all the running). She LOVES playing outside, the grass and leaves are new toys to play with.  But most of all, she loves the wind in her hair from swinging.
Ok I'll stop gushing over her #sorrynotsorry

I'm an earring gal all the way.  I never leave home without a pair in my ears.  And although I have tiny ears and a big mane than tends to hide them I love a statement pair. The key is that they are light weight.  I actually know a gal who's earring ripped her ear EKKKK
I also have sensitive ears so certain metals will irritate them.

If you've been reading here for a while you know there's one pair I've been wearing for several years on epic repeat.  Here are my favorites and I start with the pair I wear the most ...

These gold hoops are weightless and delicate but large so they still make a statement.
I wear them constantly!

These gold disc earrings I've had a few months now.  They're a bit on the heavier side so I wear them more for short occasions like church or a outing. But I think they're great for the office.

Are you noticing a gold theme?!! These earrings are definitely my evening go-to's.
When I'm getting all gussied up I want to shine and these are just the pair to do just that!

Pearls ladies, are forever earrings! Classic and polished.  I have several pairs in various colors.
If I could only own one pair of earrings for life, white pearl studs would be it.

** Another classic I want to address are diamond studs. I don't own a pair of 'real' ones because I'm too afraid I'd loose them.  I recommend these simulated diamond studs

These are my fun earrings.  Colorful and in a silk tassel they cheer up any look.
Pink a pair in your favorite color to add your personality to your outfits.

Knits & Pleats

Well gals, because soft sweaters are are cozy and a pleated skirt makes great twirls this outfit is undeniably pretty fabulous. Need I go on?!

Now for the accessories I mixed the classy with the edgy, pearls and studded pumps.
Pearls are not just for old ladies, personally I love wearing mine.  They're forever cherished pieces that I hope to pass down to baby Vivian Louise and for even her to pass down. Keeping your outfit modern will remove any 'Grandma' vibes.

I wore this outfit to church this past Sunday but it would be perfect for the office or an upcoming holiday shindig. Replace the sweater with a blouse and you have year long wear.

This sweater has a puff sleeve, but NOT the 80's kind (although there are tiny shoulder pads sewn in).  That's most of the reason I bought it, I have very narrow and small shoulders and I feel it balances my shape.

LBD & Classic White

Good Monday morning!  It's a special start to the week for me.  If you read Friday's Post you know that this week I will be wearing the same black dress for 5 days this week in efforts to raise awareness and funds to fight poverty here in Charlotte. It's called 'The Little Black Dress Initiative' #theLBDI

Because poverty is unfashionable!!!

I woke up knowing what I'd be wearing this morning.  For some they never wake up with choices.  When putting on my watch and wedding ring I also picked up my button that says "Ask me about my dress!" and pinned it on. I took a deep breath.  Here goes. For a moment I was a bit anxious about how I was going to kick start this mission engaging people not only in my daily environment but strangers out and about.  And then it all went away because being a little uncomfortable starting conversations is nothing in comparison to circumstances of those in poverty.

I started the day filming an interview with the local news station here in Charlotte about LBDI. Gals, it was so cool!
I'll share the link as soon as it airs.

And follow my journey on Instagram.

While I almost never wear black, a LBD is a staple garment for a beautiful wardrobe. This week I'll be sharing 5 different ways to style a LBD.  Starting with this classic black and white pairing.

The contrast of black and white together is just so sharp!  A blazer pulls together a polished professional look that sure to start you off on the right note for a successful work week.  Add some pearls and a pair of pumps and your ready to conquer!

Trench Dress

When you take a twist on the classic trench and make it a dress you get a perfect blend of timeless style and femininity!

I love the structured cotton fabric and a-line silhouette but my favorite element is the dusty pink color.  It also comes in tan and navy, but I couldn't resist this pink. It is such a soft and unexpected neutral.  Because it's a light and undersaturated color it pairs well with dark rich shades like brown, black and navy.  And how sweet would it look with stripes!

Wear this dress sleeveless this season but in cooler temps layer with a striped tee or dress shirt underneath.

I also plan to swap out the sash belt with a wide leather belt.

Gals, this is one of those pieces that you'll have in your wardrobe for years to come.  Invest in the classics!
