Mamma Monday: Take a load off

Happy Monday! It's raining cats and dogs here in Charlotte today, which typically doesn't hold me back but today it's helped me decide to take a load off. (along with yesterday's arrival of Vivian's grandparents whom we haven't seen in 8 months!) This is something I NEVER do! My whole life I've lived with lots of energy and being as productive as I can.

I even find myself almost judging those who 'veg'. I just can't understand why one would not do 'All the things'. As much as having a tidy and productive life keeps me sane, I'm human whether I like it or not and do require rest.

So today I'm going to relax and rest a bit.  Not completely, let's not get too crazy. But I'm going to maybe dabble a bit on the to-do list and take it easy.  Maybe just plan a little rather than executing tasks, read a little, tidy a little and even chill a little.

I'm going to do my best to not be anxious tomorrow about all the things I could have and should have done today but be grateful for the opportunity to be slow.
Let's face it toddlers won't give it to you! #truth

Friday Favorites: Sunny Side

TGIF! Gals, I believe it's true that if we keep on the sunny side it will help us every day to stay bright.

Also, dressing yourself in a pretty yellow can also make you feel as good as gold despite whatever the day may bring (it's safe to say we've been given some crazy challenges this year).

Yellow can often be an intimidating color to wear. This saturated jewel tone (think of a peacock feather) is rich and warm so it compliments all skin and hair colors. It's referred to as honey, marigold, ocher, mustard, saffron, gold and sunflower. It one of the pretties colors for Fall and I don't know about you but I'm ready to embrace a new cooler season.

Here are 20 pieces in this sunny shade ...

I added this belt for a more structured shape and my favorite, most worn shoes this summer, these espadrilles.  When it actually does cool off a pair of botties and denim jacket will pair perfectly.

Pretty on the Prairie

The ditsy mixed prints, lace and tiered ruffle design of this dress take me back to old world days of modest femininity. Gracious, that sentence was jam packed! Just like this dress.

Let me break it down.
Ditsy prints are a small scale all-over pattern that's random and most often floral.
Ribbons of wide lace frame the panels/tiers of complimentary prints.
Feminine construction in a midi ruffled hem, v-neck with covered buttons and slightly volumed bracelet length sleeve keep it modest.

Note: this sleeve length is a favorite as I am petite but it also allows for easy movement of the wrists/hands (let's face it we're all on computers), showcases jewelry hence the name, and elongates the arm highlighting the smallest area, the wrist.

This dress has an modern boho meets 'Little House on the Prairie' vibe. Anyone else grow up watching that show and reading the books??

It's a great piece to transition into the Fall season as the fabric is light enough for the lingering warm days but styled with a jacket and booties is perfectly comfortable when the chill arrives.

I styled it with a pair of comfy clogs that are making a huge comeback.  While they might not be the most elegant of styles, they sure are comfortable!  Sometimes practicality trumps.  My suggestion is to pair pretty pieces with the casual ones so that you're still put together while maintaining function.  I have to admit, I'm grateful for the sneakers with dresses trend!

Mamma Monday: Summer Scaries

Good Monday morning gals! Summer is coming to an end and boy do I have a case of the Summer Scaries! This has been the most fun Summer EVER! I know that you may be rolling your eyes because it would be so easy to look at this season and see all the hardships and unprecedented struggles.

But if you stop and think about it, life is full of challenges corona virus or not. I'm not going to argue that this has been a doozy and I don't know about you but I'm not seeing the light at the end.  The first few months were the absolute toughest and tested our family's faith big time but we had two options: turn to God and His promises for protection and provision or try and face it on our own with worry and stress.

Ice Cream is always a good idea!

While a lot of students have already started school or some virtual version of it, Vivian has another 2 weeks before she goes back and this year she's enrolled in 5 days of preschool.  That brings me to the Summer scaries.  I prayed that her preschool would be open because my goodness she loves it and asks to go all the time, so I could have a break to focus on my goals and projects and possibly work, and most importantly so she could learn and grow.
BUT I'm going to miss our days of playing, splashing, swinging & sliding on the playground, running and working out (she's mastered her numbers counting my reps), art projects, bubble dances and all the sweet simple memories we've made together this Summer.

This is motherhood. The constant struggle of soaking up every last drop of them and having some resemblance of independence. But I don't believe that's realistic or even what we'd want if we stopped and thought about it. Sure I miss the ability to walk into a room without my tiny shadow 2 feet behind me but I wouldn't go back to those solo days for anything in the world. My hands may not be free but they're FULL of the most abundant love!

So here's how I try to turn the scaries into joy ...

1. Pause - when the frustration builds, stop where you are, close your eyes and immediately give God glory for who He is, where He has you and gratitude for all that He's given you.

2. Look - truly take in your surroundings and observe the goodness all around. I promise it's better than you imagined and more than you expected. A few minutes of fresh air can be the best medicine.

3. Delay - put down the to-do list of tasks and play! It will still be there but the fun with those you love won't. The world keeps on turning, time doesn't stop and babies don't keep.

4. Dance - play a fun song and dance it out! Even if it's a Disney jam so your littles can join or an upbeat song through your headphones while you work, get your wiggles out!

5. Plan - I'm a super Type-A gal that lives an organized and scheduled life.  By keeping things in my world tidy I tend to be ahead so that I can embrace spontaneous activities without a big stress inducing detriment. Being ahead on tasks allows you to enjoy your time and for you to act quickly on opportunities.  For example: if your workout is done first thing in the morning, meals are prepped and chores caught up you can act on a moments notice to meet friends, squeeze in a swim after nap or pull out a fun activity in the backyard.

No matter where you are, shoo away the scaries with more fun!

Friday Favorites: Collars

TGIF! Gals, I LOVE collars! Always have.  They're like a frame beneath your face that adds a strong statement but with feminine details.

Note: for dress shirts a little pop adds a lot of sass!

My Mamma had this bib collar when I was little that she would add to her dresses, blouses and sweaters that added such prettiness to her outfit. Since large statement jewelry is a bit heavy for my taste, a big collar add lighter touch.

Discovery: Sea New York has become one of my top favorite brands and they are killing it with collars and ruffles!

Here are my some crisp collars I love ...

This one is #extra and I'm proud of it!
Because it has so much volume, keep your pants nice and skinny.

This blouse is more classic with a delicate ruffle trim.
also in leopard

For my simple gals, this tee is soft and casual.

This sweatshirt, also in black, is made fancy and feminine.
Swap our your typical blouse or sweater with this one.
Or you can dress up your joggers.

Classic Concept - Current Content

A white top and jeans is by far my most favorite outfit to wear! It's timeless, comfortable and versitale.

There are countless ways to embellish a white top to incorporate modern trends.  Big collars and puff sleeves are at the top of today's chart.

Jeans are the same.  My denim inventory has gone from low rise to high rise and from flares to skinnies. I'm seeing the styles of my Mamma's years back in their high waisted glory but with a modern twist, incorporating distressing and slimming cuts.

Add trending accessories like a headband and your classic look is current!
